Russian police detained gay rights activists who tried to protest on Moscow's Red Square and in St Petersburg on Friday, shortly before Vladimir Putin opened the Sochi Winter Olympics, gay rights activists said.
Police in Moscow and St Petersburg did not immediately comment on the reports by the gay activists, who said 10 protesters were detained in Moscow and four in Russia's second city.
A list posted by one rights activist on Facebook said two of those detained in Moscow were women from Sweden.
In St Petersburg, the protesters were detained after unfurling a banner declaring "Discrimination is incompatible with the Olympic Movement", gay rights group All Out said.

One doesn't need to agree with these protesters to understand that they are calling for what they consider to be moral treatment and non-discriminatory policy. If redressing your state for what you think is immoral and discriminatory isn't protected then what is?
I see from looking at your posts that you have a certain sense of..."tolerance"....for sodomites. That's unfortunate, because if you truly do not understand that unnatural, perverted, coprophilic perversion is emphatically undesirable for a healthy society, I don't know what to tell you.
Good for Russia for refusing to allow such sickness to gain a foothold.

Is it right or wrong? Moral or immoral?
And that about sums it up. Remember, the destruction of the natural family which will ultimately result in more and more folks being totally dependent on the state is the “noble” cause in the minds of the lamestream media. And since the tea party wants people to not become dependent on the state, the lamestreamers are indifferent to us at best.

What they're "asking for" is immoral.
It’s explicitly (and no doubts about it) un-Christian but I cannot compel the conscience of others to reflect that.

What they’re asking for is immoral but that’s not what the protestors believe. Respond to them, reject them, and raise you children to the contrary but please do not support a state silencing the opinion of those who believe they are standing up for what is right and proper.
That wasn’t the question. The question was whether you believe that homosexuality is right or wrong, moral or immoral.
Putin’s looking at the way the US is going, and he doesn’t want any part of that.

I believe it’s immoral. I also think any reasonable reading of what I said would have let you understand that. Especially the bit where I say I cannot compel their conscience.

Sadly, this thread makes it pretty clear that many conservatives decry activist liberal government not out of some deeply-held constitutional principle, but rather because they want the big stick of government so they can assert control themselves.
