Russian police detained gay rights activists who tried to protest on Moscow's Red Square and in St Petersburg on Friday, shortly before Vladimir Putin opened the Sochi Winter Olympics, gay rights activists said.

Police in Moscow and St Petersburg did not immediately comment on the reports by the gay activists, who said 10 protesters were detained in Moscow and four in Russia's second city.

A list posted by one rights activist on Facebook said two of those detained in Moscow were women from Sweden.

In St Petersburg, the protesters were detained after unfurling a banner declaring "Discrimination is incompatible with the Olympic Movement", gay rights group All Out said.

So the mainstream American media can cover 10 loud mouths being told to shut up in Red Square, but CANNOT find any time to cover CONSERVATIVE AMERICAN PEOPLE who are being harassed by the OBAMA ADMINISTRATION’S INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE?

Talk about your Pravda...

“No, this is silencing homo speech”...

Then we are both in agreement that this is the silencing of speech by the state.

One doesn't need to agree with these protesters to understand that they are calling for what they consider to be moral treatment and non-discriminatory policy. If redressing your state for what you think is immoral and discriminatory isn't protected then what is?

"Who is dictating? I believe prior restraint by the state is wrong. People always have been and always will be engaged in cultural and societal struggles as to what is normal and right. The subject changes but the debate never does."

I see from looking at your posts that you have a certain sense of..."tolerance"....for sodomites. That's unfortunate, because if you truly do not understand that unnatural, perverted, coprophilic perversion is emphatically undesirable for a healthy society, I don't know what to tell you.

Good for Russia for refusing to allow such sickness to gain a foothold.

A question for you. What is your opinion of homosexuality?

Is it right or wrong? Moral or immoral?

And that about sums it up. Remember, the destruction of the natural family which will ultimately result in more and more folks being totally dependent on the state is the “noble” cause in the minds of the lamestream media. And since the tea party wants people to not become dependent on the state, the lamestreamers are indifferent to us at best.

What they're "asking for" is immoral.

It’s explicitly (and no doubts about it) un-Christian but I cannot compel the conscience of others to reflect that.

There is no excusing tyranny because I really really disagree with the opinions of others.

A Pastor in Sweden was accused of hate speech by the Gaystapo for preaching homosexuality was sinful.Spanish prosecutors have opened an investigation into newly chosen Spanish Cardinal Fernando Sebastian Aguilar after a gay-rights group accused him of hate speech for calling homosexuality a “defect”.People have lost jobs because they haven’t “celebrated” the gay lifestyle of co-workers!

I’m just happy to see the gays getting to FINALLY feel what it’s like when the shoe is on the other foot!

What they’re asking for is immoral but that’s not what the protestors believe. Respond to them, reject them, and raise you children to the contrary but please do not support a state silencing the opinion of those who believe they are standing up for what is right and proper.

That wasn’t the question. The question was whether you believe that homosexuality is right or wrong, moral or immoral.

Putin’s looking at the way the US is going, and he doesn’t want any part of that.

I believe it’s immoral. I also think any reasonable reading of what I said would have let you understand that. Especially the bit where I say I cannot compel their conscience.

Who here is asking for thought control? No one.

Are you not reading me? I understand that. I also know that these people do not believe what they are speaking in favor of is not immoral or wrong. They believe that they are trying to achieve what's best. It should not be the purpose or objective of the state to silence contrary opinions or compel the conscience.

Saying that you can think it but not say it is the very foundation of thought control and it seems disingenuous to say otherwise. Why are autocratic thugs getti a pass on this just because people agree with them about homosexuality?

Why are you defending the tactics of those who push the homosexual agenda?

Sadly, this thread makes it pretty clear that many conservatives decry activist liberal government not out of some deeply-held constitutional principle, but rather because they want the big stick of government so they can assert control themselves.
