The 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, officially kicked off Friday with a massive ceremony celebrating the host countrys storied history.
From Peter the Great to Swan Lake, many of Russias finest figures and achievements were given a chance in the spotlight.
But the Russians also paid tribute to the countrys reigning political doctrine of the 20th century: communism.

While I agree these sure look like the mid 60s type things you would see in the media from the U. S. S. R., I don’t see them in the same light today. People in Russia have it hard, and I think the government is merely trying to instill pride in folks who work hard. It would actually be a bit refreshing to know our government actually knows the middle-class exists in the U. S. These days they’re too busy trying to figure out how to take away more of what these ‘vile people’ unfairly earned or came by during their lives.
And the difference between this and the London Olympics opening ceremonies paying tribute to the National Health Service is that the NHS didn’t kill quite as many people?
