She was reportedly searching for a one armed man who committed the real crime.

My first thought was “They got Angela Davis!”

Aaron said his mother lived a life outside her home in Hillcrest, going to PTA meeting and church.
While the primary purpose of sending someone to jail is for punishment, it's also for rehabilitation.
If this woman has lived a "normal" life for 36 years, I say, let her be.

The comments to this article are interesting. Many people seem to believe that if you escape, and simply stay out of trouble until you are caught again, then you should be let out of your original sentence.

That seems like an awfully big incentive to escape from custody if you can manage to stay out of trouble until you are recaptured years later.

In kindergarten I took a bite out of another kid’s cookie during milk break. The teacher scolded me for it but it was probably still a misdemeanor.

Should I be looking over my shoulder?

After more than 36 years on the run,

That is a long, long time to be running. I mean, Forrest Gump didn't run that long. And for attempted larceny?? WTH.

When he got the official request from Michigan, the police officer exclaimed:

"You mean to tell me there a person living in San Diego illegally with fake documents? No way Jose!"

She probably went through one of those routine saliva/blood test checkpoints.

“Attempted larceny...36 years ago?” More government vanity and waste.

With a crime such as this, after a certain amount of time, leave it alone. She would’ve surfaced long ago if she were living a criminal life. It seems she self-rehabilitated, and rehabilitation is supposed to be the purpose of jail time.

A neighbor who lived next door to Hayman described her as a quiet person who seemed paranoid and kept to herself.

Well, it seems she had good reason to be paranoid.

I have to wonder if this is really worth all the expense involved. Unless she waives extradition, a governor’s warrant will have to be done. Then the prosecuting attorney’s office (of the county that sentenced her) will have to pay for either MDOC or the US Marshals to transport her back. I wonder what she stole to make her such a high-priority escapee. Yes, I’ll read the full story..somewhere!

I will sleep better knowing that this fugitive has finally been caught. Great police work!! Great use of my tax dollars. if only we had more police to catch such hardened criminals. /S
