Fry Cook Shifted to Part-Time Work Confronts Obama

During a Google Hangout session on Friday, fry cook Darnell Summers told President Obama that his hours were cut due to the Affordable Care Act. “We were broken down to part time to avoid paying health insurance,” he said. Summers explained that he makes $7.25 an hour and has been on strike four times seeking a wage increase. “We can’t survive, it’s not livin’,” he said.

The president responded by urging states to increase the minimum wage. “I am working to encourage states, governors, mayors, state legislators to raise their own minimum wage,” Obama said. “Obviously, the way to reach millions of people would be for Congress to pass a new federal minimum wage law. So far, at least, we have not seen support from Republicans for such a move.”

The president did not address Summers’s comments about the healthcare law.

. . .I am working to encourage states, governors, mayors, state legislators to raise their own minimum wage . .

Ah, now cut it out Barry, you're not "working" to do anything beyond your normal daytime routine of playing pocket pool and tweeting Reginald - maybe a little NC 2 A hoops action on ESPN.

If you were working you wouldn't be having Google chats and campaign crap during working hours (and we know you knock off at 4PM every day)

Obama’s just making it “fair”. It wasn’t fair that he had a full time job and others didn’t have any job. So Obama is just spreading his job around so others get some work too...

He has gone on strike 4 times?

Now why wouldn't anyone want to have this guy in their workforce?

haha - My dad gave me a job on an old belt drive turret lathe outside during the summer in Los Angeles one year. I worked only 48 hours a week, 6 days a week for 12 weeks - I walked away when the job was complete and I had 150.00 in my pocket. A fortune to a 15 year old. I went straight to Carls Jr. and honored myself with a double Famous star, large fries and a large pop. Livin!

And IF minimum wage is raised what will stop companies from cutting the workforce? I’ve seen Rite Aid stores with ONE employee visible. If companies can run their stores etc with ONE employee making $10-30 an hour that is what will happen.
All this escapes a man making a fortune doing nothing but Undoing what has worked.

That's the major difference between then and today. We understood it was a privilege to have someone deem us worthy of their employment, we also understood that the end result of our labor was not only a paycheck, but a testament to our character. Now, everyone should be ‘entitled’ to a job and a ‘fair’ salary and it's that attitude that produces a mediocre result.

he voted for O dumbo based on race alone

This is wrong. Black or white candidate, blacks vote 9 to 1 for Democrats, even when the GOP candidate is black and the Democratic candidate is white. I assume it's related to racial quotas and demographics (i.e. a disproportionate % of blacks are on welfare programs compared to other ethnicities).

“he voted for O dumbo based on race alone”

add my “or” please to convey what I was saying was one possibility. Without the “or” it implies I was saying he voted for him on race alone.

Thanks.

I like to find a post I can disagree with but I can’t on this one, all the intelligent people posted here. I want to stir the pot a little but not possible here. I am getting depressed.

Obama got his answer wrong...he said Reagan took office in 1980....actually, Reagan took office in 1981.

I’m sure he voted for Odumbo partly on race.

But mostly because he really believed that he could just pull out his pen and fix all of these problems in his life by Executive Decree.

I assume a minimum wage worker does not take it upon himself to go on strike. He may be forced by his union (even if he’s not a union member). Just try crossing a picket line of a restaurant union in NYC; you won’t have a face left.

I assume Obama doesn’t think that by raising the minimum wage by $3 an hour is gonna have any affect at all on the prices of goods. If everyone makes more, everything will cost more. Therefore nullifying the raise in minimum wage. Am I wrong?

Employer's fault. Insurance company's fault. Republicans' fault. 1 percenters' fault.

NEVER Obama's, Socialism's, Democrats' or the ACA's fault.
