LIVE UPDATES: Deadly Shooting at Columbia Mall in Maryland

Police responded to an active shooting at Columbia Mall in Maryland shortly after 11:00 a.m. ET. Three people are confirmed dead and the mall remains on lockdown.

UPDATE, 12:40p ET: People inside the mall are being told to wait until they are escorted out. The scene is believes to be secure.

UPDATE, 12:34p ET: Randy Brooks, owner of Edward Arthur Jewelers at Columbia Mall, told Uma Pemmaraju that he heard a couple of pops and then saw people running. He said it appeared that the shooter had a shotgun and was killed, but police have not confirmed that. Brooks said others have reportedly been taken to the hospital.

It’s being reported that it happened at a zumiez store... Shooter went in shot two people then himself.

“A shooting at a Maryland mall that left three dead, including the suspected shooter, is being investigated as a possible domestic dispute involving a husband, his estranged wife, and her boyfriend, police sources told ABC News. “

“The body of the suspected shooter was found near a shotgun on the floor of Zumiez, a shop that caters to skaters, police said.”

Shooter alleged to be depressed and also a drug dealer.

that link has the wrong video...it shows the NJ mall shooting from months ago. the story is correct...they just didn’t doublecheck the video.

Your post is right on button, Flaglady. This past year in my daily interactions with neighbors and friends, even salespeople plus workmen who come to my digs I see in them a kind of a nervous humor if and when they refer even slightly to their economic futures and/or their job security.

The older folks are terribly upset and jittery over their health future under OdumboCare. Men with families and mortgages and financial responsibilities are tense and pessimistic and close-mouthed, just shaking their heads.

Given the right circumstances, I always end up a conversation with these folks saying "we've got to get rid of that commie in the White House". I used to get maybe a nod, a smile, a disinterested deadpan, a glare or sometimes even a snarky remark....now all I get is an emphatic "you've got that right!" (except from the occasional die-hard cultist).

This gives me cause for optimism, but we're going to go through some hard times first. I cringe when I see the number of shuttered small businesses in my county...and in the adjoining county....and in the counties farther away....and in.......

Maryland has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. How could this happen? Prayers up for the dead and wounded.

Another stat that could be mentioned in connection with the three dead in Columbia is that today upwards of 500 people will slip and fall in the shower and die an hour later as the result of major head trauma.But not a word in the AP or on MSLSD about *that* slaughter.

FYI..went to see Lone Survivor the other day at the same theater where the shooting occurred last week. There's a Pasco County Sherriff's car parked in front of the theater, and the deputy is inside standing next to, and seemingly guarding, the concession stand. He looked bored out of his skull.

I guess the PCSD feels the need to do something, but they're not guarding every theater in Tampa, and t his one is probably the safest now of all of them. The deputy would be far better used out investigating crime..
