A few years after Wendy Davis claimed in court that she had suffered damage to her mental health, a Texas court put Davis under a temporary restraining order prohibiting her from using drugs or alcohol within twenty-four hours of coming into contact with her children.

Folks, from here on out, the only card left for Wendy Davis to play is victim

You should have seen the looks on the mothers’ faces. Talk about a “Priceless” moment. I bet those two scouts will be asking who “abortion Barbie” is at the family dinner table tonight. They saved me a trip to the grocery store too.

Sounds reasonable to me. Particularly if the existence of such an order will be used decades later to “prove” you’re a bad person.

Which is not to say that WD may not be a bad person. Only that the existence of such an order does not appear to be evidence she is.

I believe her husband requested such an order, then withdrew the request before the judge ruled on it.

There's a scan of the signed TRO at the source. However, people need to be aware that these forms include things like that alcohol and drugs clause as standard, all-purpose language. Only the specific things such as street addresses and vehicle descriptions are tailored. This isn't necessarily a "smoking gun" pointing to drug or alcohol abuse.

I misunderstood an earlier article, which was where the remark about the order being withdrawn came from. My apologies.

But the evidence you and others provide indicate, to me at least, that this is a very bad peg to hang a hat on.

Much better is the fact that she did not bother to get custody of her daughter.

If conservatism means anything, it ought to mean devotion to following the rules, ethical and legal, even when opponents do not.

Your mentality inevitably leads to willingly climbing into the cattle-cars, because those are the "rules." No thanks...

As a Texan I can tell you that her most damaging acts was that she abandon her children. She voluntarily gave up custody of her children because “it wasn’t convenient” at the time. This added to the initial filing alleging adultery. The long and short of this when the fat lady sings...Texans will come to realize she is a tramp who gave up her children to further her career. That don’t play well here...

Uh...I know several doctors who did the same thing.

Divorced their dull wives who worked to put them through medical school and then dumped them for a trophy wife when they started making money.

Restraining order here:

Judge signed it 26 Nov 2003.

Yup, I was incorrect in that post, as I’ve agreed farther down.

However, it also appears such restraining orders are routine and even sometimes automatic in TX, which puts a real crimp in their evidentiary value.

Suggest reading the rest of the thread.

True, restraining orders are commonplace. Restraining orders with that degree of specificity, not so much.

Keep in mind that when she attended Harvard, she not only left lawyer-hubby with both the daughter they shared and also with her daughter from the trailer park marriage. The daughters stayed with him after the marriage broke up.

Not a TX attorney, so I will defer to others on this issue. Just pointing out that the fact that an order was issued is not in and of itself particularly relevant.
