Lansing woman shot at in road-rage incident on I-80/94 11 hours ago Times Staff
GARY | A Lansing woman was shot at in a road-rage incident Sunday on I-80/94, with one bullet hitting the back of her car, Indiana State Police said in a news release.
The 33-year-old woman told police she was on 25th Avenue in Gary driving her Chrysler 300 slowly because of potholes. She said a car behind her was following too closely, so she braked to get the car to back off. The braking apparently angered the other driver.
The woman said the driver got in front of her vehicle as they turned off 25th onto Burr Street before entering Interstate 80/94 westbound.
She told police that shortly after entering the interstate she noticed the other vehicle a red four-door passenger car with dark tinted windows pulled alongside her. She said the driver, described as a black male with dreadlocks and wearing a black sock hat, pointed a gun at her and began shooting, according to the news release.
She said the suspect shot four to five times as she drove away.
Investigators said one bullet struck the rear bumper of the woman's car, entering the trunk. The woman was not injured, police said.
Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to call Detective Chris Campione at (219) 696-6242.
This is the second road-rage incident involving a shooting on I-80/94 in less than a week. A Valparaiso man was shot and injured heading home from work Wednesday. That shooting happened in the eastbound lanes near the Ripley Street exit in Lake Station. Police said the shooter was described as a middle-aged black man with short hair. He was driving a silver or gray Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck.
South Carolina.
I hate drivers who think its their job to set the speed limit.
Maryland is full of them.
So she profiled him (black)
I like my car too much to risk it. My preferred method is to just take my foot off the gas and coast, to a stop if need be, till they go around me. Pisses em’ off just as much but doesn’t put my bumper at risk. Plus it’s not an incitement if you wind up needing to talk to the cops, you were just slowing down to let them around you.
I was wrong. I saw a car coming down the street in my direction. Fortunately, I was not standing outside my car. The lunatic smashed his car into my car again. Then he drove off. I managed to limp to a side street with my car now totally disabled. As I walked to a telephone to call the police, some young woman drove her car into the parking area where the phone was. The lunatic had attacked her car as well. The young woman was sobbing as she told me her story.
Well, it turned out the lunatic was a parolee from Colorado state prison where he had served six years for a violent assault. He was supposed to be on medication for his (psychotic) illness, but his relatives said he had gone off the medication and disappeared. So he stole a car and drove about 500 miles where I was unfortunate enough to run into him. Actually, he ran into me.
The upshot was, after assaulting me and the young woman, he crashed his car into a fire hydrant and stole another car. He then led a number of county and town cops on a high speed chase out of town. He crashed that car after trying to negotiate a country curve at a high rate of speed. As he emerged from his car in a cornfield (ironically a very short distance from my house), he was facing four county cops who were pointing their pistols at him. The man was armed with a knife which he was told numerous times by the cops to put down. After a few minutes of staring at the cops, the lunatic decided to charge the cops while waving the knife. He was riddled with a lot of bullets and didn't survive his ventilation.
So friends, you can be a victim (or survivor as I look at it) of road rage anywhere. This incident took place in a very small Midwestern town with an almost total absence of violent (or any) crime.
If he hits me, it is his fault and then we can play the game.
Your point, pls?
We drove north on I-39 through a snowstorm just about the ENTIRE length of Illinois this past Saturday.
By the time we hit Wisconsin (HOME!) I was ready to start shootin’, LOL!
Something more and more people have less and less of.
I just drop it into 2nd gear...no lights needed.
But like I said, I’ve only done that once and it called for it. I’ve not come close to explaining the circumstances under which I did it. I will say again that if I see a guy pointing a gun at me from inside a car, my first impulse would be to ram him off the road (unless I’m in my FR-S, of course. In which case I’d slam on the brakes while dropping it into 3rd, do a 180 and get the heck out of there.
In the end, its just courtesy.
Something more and more people have less and less of.
I try to follow the two second rule! Inevitably someone who is behind me shifts to the right lane, then races up and cuts in front of me to “fill in” the space between me and the car ahead. Happens every time. There are many idiots who risk everyone’s lives just to get one car length ahead. Can’t drive just in the right lane...too many slow-moving trucks.
Not today. No matter how fast you go, eventually there will be someone riding your bumper, wanting to go faster. Good for you for finding a place with less stress. Enjoy!
I started in 1970. And here we actually still have “sunday drivers”. I’m one of them. When I get behind a slow car, I just go slower. If I’m in a hurry, I legally pass and I’m on my way.
See, here you CAN pass. ;-)
BTW, I mostly bicycle commuted in Seattle. I could actually beat cars to work on a daily basis. Here I do a 122 mile round trip every day - 75 minutes each way. It would not be possible in the Seattle area because it would be too stressful.
I go by the simpler ‘can you read his license plate’ rule. If you can read it, you’re too close.
My point.
“A Symposium declared aggressive driving to be primarily a State issue, not a Federal one.”
Jeeeesh, I envy you, but not your daily commute!! It’s obviously worth it, though. Have an Arturo Fuentes Hemingway on me!
Love a happy story on a Monday morning!
Bs. Braking is not road rage since anyone braking should never place you at risk since you shouldn’t be tailgating. You talk like you respect gangbangers. I hate them and would waste the prick that thought shooting at me was his right.
LOL! I can't do that. I'd have to be holding the plate in my hand to read it!!
