Oliver Stone announced on Friday he is no longer involved with an upcoming movie about the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. after the studio rejected his script.
"Sad news. My MLK project involvement has ended. I did an extensive rewrite of the script, but the producers won't go with it," the director wrote on Twitter.
"The script dealt w/ issues of adultery, conflicts within the movement, and King's spiritual transformation into a higher, more radical being," Stone continued. "I'm told the estate & the 'respectable' black community that guard King's reputation won't approve it. They suffocate the man & the truth. I wish you could see the film I would've made. I fear if 'they' ever make it, it'll be just another commemoration of the March on Washington. Martin, I grieve for you. You are still a great inspiration for your fellow Americans--but, thank God, not a saint."

“With the exception of one of the daughters, IIRC”
You are correct. My bad.
{ping} ... because I can’t ping ol’ bw (may he R.I.P.) ...
Your adoration of a man associated with communists is interesting.
I remember listening to G. Gordon Liddy on the radio years ago and he said that the FBI tapes of MLK made Bill Clinton look like a Boy Scout. That’s what got me first questioning the idol known as MLK.
Par for the course. But what’s stopping Stone from making his own movie his way then? Hollywood hardly likes Mel Gibson any more, but he still gets movies made.
Or that MLK was a Pubbie before JFK coopted him.
Stone’s film would have been both about adultery and Marxism with King portrayed as some sort of Che figure.
MLKJR was whitewashed!
They also sued the record companies that put out memorial albums of MLK’s inspiring speeches.
There were plenty of such albums in the wake of the JFK assassination and even the moon landing as well.
It amazes me how much people don’t know.
Ralph Abernathy (MLK’s right hand man) wrote in his autobiography that Dr. King was less than a saint.
Author Taylor Branch delved into as best he can, the FBI records on surveillance are locked up until 2027.
Branch got FBI techinicians to tell him what they heard on the audio tapes.
And what the FBI found out about the adultery got all the way to the top in 1963. Jackie Kennedy was audio interviewed after her husband’s death callin MLK a “phony” and saying he was arranging for “orgies” before the March on Washington in the summer of 63.
Dr. King was human and he made mistakes just like JFK and ultimately just like myself.

The story of his private life was being whispered around Washington courtesy of the FBI some 50 years ago this month.
The Kennedy Administration authorized the FBI spying and it continued into the Johnson Administration. CNN did a documentary a few years ago reporting on the tape that the FBI sent to MLK in 1964 that Mrs. King listened to of one of the adulterous encounters.
I THINK KING WAS SPIED ON BECAUSE THE DEMOCRATS WANTED TO KEEP HIM IN LINE FOR THE 1964 ELECTION. A SUSPENSION OF CIVIL RIGHTS PROTESTS WAS ANNOUNCED IN JULY 1964 TO HELP LBJ’S ELECTION.
You are still a great inspiration for your fellow Americans--but, thank God, not a saint."Obviously he's just another white-wing wacist! Thanks Behind Liberal Lines.
JFK and his administration tried to half the 1963 march on Washington. They also nixed plans to take the march to the White House.
halt not half
They decided to publish the legend, not surprising.
Some black guy on ABC’s sunday morning rag said “Dr. Martin Luther is the finest man this country has ever produced”. BAHHHHHH
the truth hurts
but on another note: Happy Robert E Lee Birthday everybody!
Well said. That is how I feel.
