The Biggest Rocket Ever made
The Daily Mail ^ | 15 January 2014 | MARK PRIGG

Posted on 01/15/2014 1:55:44 PM PST by MarkBsnr

It is set to become the largest rocket ever built, dwarfing the rockets that took man to the moon and paving the way for manned missions to Mars.

Nasa today reveal stunning new pictures of its SLS (Space Launch System), which will eventually be capable of lifting 130 tonnes into orbit.

The rocket will be used to ferry astronauts to the International Space Station, and to help us explore the outer reaches of the solar system.

It is even hoped the craft could play a role in manned missions to Mars, being able to launch 'stepping stone' bases into orbit. 'The potential use of SLS for science will further enhance the synergy between scientific exploration and human exploration,' said John Grunsfeld, astronaut and associate administrator for science at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

'SLS has the promise of enabling transformational science in our exploration of the solar system and cosmos.' Currently under construction, NASA’s Space Launch System will be the world’s most powerful launch vehicle. Designed to enable human exploration missions to deep space destinations, including an asteroid and Mars, SLS is working toward a first launch in 2017.

For that first flight test, the rocket will be able to launch 70 metric tons (77 tons) of payload into low-Earth orbit, almost three times what the space shuttle could carry. From there, SLS will be evolved to a configuration that will be able to carry 130 metric tons (143 tons), more weight than any rocket ever has been able to carry.

If we ever leave orbit again, I hope there are no Muzzie astronauts. They would then claim all of space for Allah. I can see the logic now...

“Well he was in the front seat in a position of honor so they were technically there first....”

The orbiter itself wasn’t considered “payload”.

NASA may very well be out of the space business but they still sure do know how to make them purty rocket pictures.

“Well that and helping them colonize the solar system so they can commit terror acts there too...”

Nah, Muslims will not want to colonize the solar system until Jews are already there!

Good point. I stand corrected.

Wait. Surely one of our past Astronauts was a hated Jew? (Term ‘hated Jew” used to help sainted muslims feel better about their contributions) I dunno. It’s all so confusing when trying to understand how the obviously superior (”Obviously superior” term used to help Muslims feel better about their contributions) Muzzie intellect works on such matters.

Do a freaking Google search and stop guessing and repeating false information.

They start launching that baby and you will have a couple million spectators rushing to see it lunched, and the Saturn V was heard, and felt when it launched a LONG ways away.

This is NASA. The first launch will be at least 3 years behind schedule and a minimum of $100 billion over budget.

Sad to say but I have serious doubts about the NASA of today....if Hansen is still in charge forget it!!!

With Russia and the ChiComs planning to militarize space and set up bases on the moon, we need to watch what this treasonous POS does very carefully when it comes to space projects. You know that he's going to try to help them in some way to gain the advantage over us.

Saturn V carried 120 tons over 40 years ago

Well this one will eventually be capable of lifting "130 tonnes" into orbit. - big difference.

I read once that all or most of the original drawings for the Saturn V rockets have been lost....................

The reality is worse - our ability to make some of the components has been lost.

No, but it gives an idea of how much weight was being lifted compared to this new rocket that we don’t need.

From Saturn 5 Blueprints Safely in Storage:

... "The Federal Archives in East Point, Georgia, also has 2,900 cubic feet of Saturn documents," he said. "Rocketdyne has in its archives dozens of volumes from its Knowledge Retention Program. This effort was initiated in the late '60s to document every facet of F 1 and J 2 engine production to assist in any future restart."

Shawcross cautioned that rebuilding a Saturn 5 would require more than good blueprints.

"The problem in recreating the Saturn 5 is not finding the drawings, it is finding vendors who can supply mid-1960's vintage hardware," he wrote, "and the fact that the launch pads and vehicle assembly buildings have been converted to space shuttle use, so you have no place to launch from.

"By the time you redesign to accommodate available hardware and re-modify the launch pads, you may as well have started from scratch with a clean sheet design," he wrote. ...

Sure, STS lifted a LOT of weight. I always thought the thing was a horrible kludge.

The only reason to build this new rocket is to spread money around to the Crony Capitalists.
