Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates should have waited to publish the memoir in which he harshly criticized President Obama's leadership in the war in Afghanistan, two top Republican senators said Sunday.
"I would have waited, but as far as waiting until it's over in Afghanistan, I wouldn't have done that," Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said on CNN's "State of the Union," though he was quick to praise the former defense secretary.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a potential 2016 presidential contender, made similar comments on CBS's "Face the Nation."
"My preference would be that people would refrain from writing these sorts of things until the president is out of office because I think it undermines the ability to conduct foreign policy," Rubio said.

I think the troops he is deploying have a right to know their C in C has no faith they can do the job, although I’m pretty sure most of them know what this bunch thinks of them.
...of course you would hear that from the MSM....praise, no scandal, scandal draws interest....interest draws scrutiny...scrutiny draws more interest....nothing worst for a RAT than scrutiny
waited how long?? Until after the November election??
Gates book may well remove the log jam and bring out more revealing books between now and then - let’s hope!
I heard he needed the money, his unemployment ran out.
2 liberal socialist jerks sticking up for obama!
:applause:
Well put!
Note to Rubio and McCain: Gates waited until after he left the administration to write his book.
Note to faux leaders: If you don’t want people to tell the truth about you, don’t do things that will embarrass you.
They never want it published and will find one excuse after another.
Imagine for a second Schumer or Reid criticizing someone for writing a negative book on Bush during his presidency? Never happen. The Repubs are the stupid party. Always trying to suckup to the liberal media.
“because I think it undermines the ability to conduct foreign policy,” Rubio said.”
I wonder if he ever really thinks before he speaks? Or maybe he just isn’t paying attention to Barry’s foreign policy or basically failure to conduct it. Then there’s McStain getting his pic taken with Al Queda.
Two ball-less wonders.
Exhibit A of why the GOPe is a minority party.
McCain is the same sh**head that called the Swift boaters “dishonorable” for calling Kerry on his Vietnam lies.
Juan should have a book written about him along with Benghazi Hillary.
Obama can't conduct foreign policy at all; that's Gate's point!
Yeah, I mean, just, wow. I actually thought he'd gotten the message -- not that it was going to change my opinion of him. And then this.
All for the approval of some liberal media-type.
You BOTH should resign... traitors to the tenth power.
If you want your name mentioned prominately in the press trash a fellow Republican or stand with the democrat side AGAINST a conservative.
Marco Rubio’s following in McCain’s footsteps... what a fool.
Anyone hear of a Democrat getting great press in the Washington Post or New York Times for trashing a Democrat - or standing with someone who trashing democrats? Not ever gonna happen...
They can’t have the little people knowing about what is going on in DC...
