A month after a small plane crash in Hawaii, a surviving passenger shows GoPro footage and even a selfie taken during the ordeal.
Would you have done the same? Ferdinand Puentes was one of nine passengers in a 2002 Cessna Grand Caravan which suddenly suffered engine failure off Kalaupapa, Molokai in Hawaii last month. As he heard the engine fail and saw the plane heading for the water, one of his first instincts was to turn on his GoPro camera and film what might have been his own demise. As KHON-TV reports, Puentes knew the danger he was in, yet the decision to film as much as possible might perplex a few. He managed to get out of the plane alive and survived the crash. However, while he was floating on a seat cushion and wearing his life raft, he took a selfie.
Was the impulse to record just a natural reaction? After all, any bystander or news organization would have likely done the same thing. And these days everyone is using their phones to film just about everything they see. But wouldn't one's first instinct be to try to contact family and friends to say goodbye? Perhaps that did happen. The footage reflects a quite stunning lack of panic. The passengers behave in an orderly manner. There is no screaming or pushing. No one seems frantic at all. Loretta Fuddy, Hawaii's 65-year-old state director of health, died in the crash, despite managing to leave the plane. In watching Puentes talk to KHON-TV, though, it's evident that the footage brings back painful memories. Would everyone want to have such ready access to a reminder? Or would some prefer to forget? "You could have died," Puentes told KHON-TV. "There's so much variations that could have happened for the worse."
I think that is a guy not a gal. Jacob Key is next to his wife hanging onto the plane.

Actually that link doesn’t help but put your finger over the wet bang strip on “the gal’s forehead” and you can see that it’s a guy or could be. Try it.
And I think that that is not a fat woman’s arm but rather the life vest around Jacob Key’s neck.
Inside the plane before the crash he is probably sitting next to his wife. Somebody else is sitting in front of Fuddy.
In the water his gray short sleeve shirt is pushed up over his shoulder or blocked by the life vest.

What is it, specifically, that makes you think they use some other protocols besides what is in the USCG documents?

There’s a white “play” arrow in front of the still on my computer so I can’t see that, but it lets me know what photo you’re talking about and I can look and see what I find.
This link is an example of the balance of pros and cons in publicly stating what you’ve found out. The bad part is that information starts disappearing and/or changing. That article was written on January 11th, the day after we at Free Republic started discussing who the bare-armed person is, and voila! the claim of 9 total people on board, given to us by the NTSB, Coast Guard, and all the witnesses.... suddenly changes to 9 people on board in addition to the pilot (for a total of 10 passengers).
Just like that the story will change as the media quietly phases in the new number without so much as a question about why everybody ignored this woman’s existence and the fact that she was flown directly to Queens Hospital by the Coast Guard. Indeed, they mock the people who ask questions, as if we were “crazy conspiracy theorists”.
Just like snopes quietly phased in Kapiolani for a birth hospital rather than Queens, and the media and Obama’s publicist quietly phased out the Kenyan birth and replaced it with a Hawaii birth and then called us crazy for thinking something might be up with that.
In that new photo the ponytail does look lighter. The skin looks dark though.
That might be Jacob Key holding onto the plane, as you suggest. When I look closer and adjust the brightness and contrast, the shirt does appear to be white-ish with some kind of pattern on it. And it can be seen at that darkness that the thing swooping across the face is a ponytail. Then when the brightness is set back to normal the ponytail appears lighter. Yep, I think you pegged it. I think that is Jacob Key.
He must have let Puentesgo out the door before him. Where exactly are the doors located in relation to the rows of seats? Anybody know?
Couple of questions:
Has anyone checked out the photographer to see if he is who he says he is?
Was there any way an outside agent could monitor what was happening during and after the crash?
What’s going on with the assistant now?
Wonder if the scheduled vacation is so he can get counseling to help him remember part of his horrific experience. It would also be the reason they are holding off final report. (Still think in the panic of the air craft sinking he may have unintentionally caused her death)
Right, because a 65 year old woman dieing after a stressful event like a plane crash is unheard of!

No he didn’t, this is a myth that people keep repeating.
If you lighten up the photo of the “mummy” and look closely, there is either a mole or a deep scar on the outer corner of that person’s right eye. I don’t think that is Puentes.
Oh, wait a minute. You’re thinking that the mystery woman is Jacob Key?
Not a woman but a man who pulls his long hair back which is quite fashionable in HI? Is that a possibility?
