According to The Huffington Post, Congressional Democrats released a study Thursday that demonstrated how Wal-Marts wages are so low that many of its workers must rely on food stamps and other government aid programs, costing taxpayers as much as $900,0000 at just one Wal-Mart Supercenter in Wisconsin.
The report, The Low-Wage Drag on Our Economy, was produced by Democrats with the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
Exactly, and Wal-Mart is leader in extending the buying power of the American workers dollar. Wal-Mart is not responsible for the idiotic government policies that stifle productivity (i.e. EPA, Commerce, Energy Transportation and Interior departments). Wal-Mart is not responsible for government transfer payments from the productive to the non productive.
The productive elements of our society, including Wal-Mart are not responsible for creating, sustaining and empowering the non-productive elements of our society.
If you think Wal-Mart is the problem causing poverty in America, shut them all down tomorrow then see where the country would be.
Ahh...the flaming eye of zot! Good show! :)
Yes, it’s -2.7° here, and I had to turn on the fireplace.
The troll zot helped a lot too.
Nice of you to say so.
It’s one of my favorites. ;-)
It's cold enough that even Texans are taking Sriracha shots.
It’s not a corporation’s responsibility to keep people off the government dole. The government is the one who’s supposed to cut people off from becoming lifers on the system.
If the welfare bennies were cut, maybe taxes could go down, and wages would be naturally driven up to compensate as businesses used more of their untaxed cash to compete for labor.
Being cut off would also force people to improve their skills to seek out higher-paying jobs or do their job better to demonstrate to their employer why they’re worth a higher salary or promotion.
Most likely, these people would refuse “too high” a salary from Walmart because it would disqualify them from the bennies they’re dependent on. The ridiculous government-run system of welfare and means-tested benefits are the source of the problem.
Walmart tends to be the best-paying job in town compared to other food and retail jobs. The only reason they’re targetted by the libs is because there’s a huge pile of cash to be had in one fell swoop for the unions if they can unionize Walmart employees.
I was off-line for a couple of hours and I missed steelhead_trout's ZOT!
Pretty!
Lovely to see you too! Happy New Year :)
All is well. Except for it being so cold my personal pilot light has gone out. :)
Hugs!

That’s so much money, no one is even sure how much it is.
Back in late '69 or early '70, I remember everyone going to Gary Bartram's house because they just installed a bay window. The entire neighborhood was jealous. Today, the average home is 50% larger than his house was, and it is loaded with appliances that most people could only dream of. No one had central air. If you were lucky, you'd have a window cooler in one room. We had a fan. Most everyone lived like that where I grew up. Today no one in that neighborhood does.
One down, one to go.
I don’t think you are correctly using the word “subsidize”.
The money people get from government is not based on them getting a job at Walmart. It is independent, and in fact is less than what they would get if they did NOT have the job at Walmart.
So it is false that the government is “subsidizing” Walmart’s wages.
It could well be that government handouts make it more likely people will take a lower-wage job. That is the danger of government giving out money, it skews everything. In the same way that government providing tax breaks for mortgage interest simply drives up the cost of housing, and government tax breaks for college drive up the cost of college.
But that is not the fault of any particular employer, ALL of whom have access to the same set of possible workers who are also qualified to receive government handouts.
bump
government handouts always skew the marketplace
That will certainly warm you up, Gunner. ;-)
Oh, sorry Sweetie. Better luck next time. You were still IBTZ.
Thank you, dear friend.
