PORTLAND, Ore. (CBS Seattle/AP) One Oregon mother says that she is unable to afford health insurance for her and her 18-month-old son because its too expensive.
The woman who wishes to remain anonymous tells KOIN-TV that she originally championed President Barack Obamas signature health care law because she thought it would help people in her situation.
Ive been a cheerleader for the Affordable Care Act since I heard about it and I assumed that it was designed for people in my situation, she told KOIN. I was planning on using the Affordable Care Act and I had done the online calculator in advance to make sure I was going to be able to afford it.
Her husband works for a non-profit organization that pays for his health care, but the couple is unable to afford to have her and their son covered under his plan. And shes been told their combined income is too much to qualify for a subsidized health care plan under Cover Oregon.
It wasnt until I started the process and got an agent that I started hearing from them I wasnt going to qualify for subsidies because I qualify on my husbands insurance, she told KOIN.

Is she enjoying other subsides?
On a surface level I get a good laugh out of such people finally getting smacked in the face by reality. Ultimately though it’s very sad because BOzoCare isn’t good for the nation. It was never about health care, it was always about control. On top of that it’s going to help collapse the system which has been a long-term goal of traitorous, treasonous globalist demons. True story.
As did many Democrats. The Woman (D)vote is the most stubborn because they'll refuse to listen to any facts or reason.
Not just women. Try to pry away the Medicare Part D that Bush gave seniors, and see what happens.
Romney was wrong. It's not 47%. It was 51.1% when last checked, and it's growing.
Both parties are in competition trying to give away the most free stuff. Obama's imploding approval numbers are because he's failing to deliver on his promises of free stuff, not because there is any greater realization that acquiring political power with "panem et circenses" (bread and circuses) dooms a society to failure. We're in a death spiral. I don't see any way out. The only question I have is if we hit the ground and explode in 2014 or later.
I spoke to a man yesterday who has been on his wife’s health insurance, along with their child. He was told that since he qualifies for insurance at his own place of employment, he has to get his through his job. So now his wife pays half again as much for her and the child and he pays almost as much for his own. So obamacare is costing them a good bit.
Have mods or anyone chosen a standard keyword to use for Obamacare “pain” or, as I affectionately refer to it as, “SITYS” (see I told you so)?
It sure would be nice to find the “pain” in a different category than all the other “news” for obamacare...
In reality, she is still cheerleading for it.
Stories like these will be what is cited to prove that the greedy, mean insurance companies are still trying to screw the little guy. Obama will say he tried to keep health care in the private sector, but the “fat cats” are just too greedy.
That’s when we get Obamacare 2: The Wrath of Valerie Jarrett, which will be full-blown government run socialist health care.
We may even get it to coincide with amnesty.
My advice to everyone is to get healthy now. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait 6 months to see a general practitioner, because an entire village from Guatemala will be ahead of you in line.
When you get insurance through an employer, that employer picks usually picks up a big portion of the premiums.
In Obamacare, people under 400% of the poverty level (the vast majority of Americans) are supposed to get government subsidies to pay a portion of the premiums.
People like this lady just figured out that the law doesn't allow subsidies for a whole family if one of the primary income earners gets individual coverage from their employer.
The critics of Obamacare have been trying to put this out since the Dept of Treasury put out their interpretation of the law last January. Here is an article explaining this gap.
Thanks! I’ve now got it. Maybe you should write Obamacare for Dummies if it isn’t already out there.
My 88 year old healthy mother LOVES her Medicare. Being a hyphocondriac, she shows up at the ER every month to be cosseted by some kindly nurse (where she finds them, I don’t know!) and some handsome young intern. She then complains when the bill comes in: $80.
Last time, though, they seemed to be doubtful as to her symptoms. Unfortunately, they were nice to her and GLARED at me.
That’s the way some sad people get the only comfort they know.
She needs to learn more about the direct love of God.
Well, she’s very religious. And she’s not sad, either. Angry, bitter, miserable, yes. The only sad people are her middle-aged kids!
Well, being angry and bitter is a sort of sadness.
It’s another way of expressing sadness. You know of no joy, so you fill your life with whatever else you know. Anger has a place, but it was never meant to be our main spiritual food.
I feel for her. I wish I could help more, but I will ask God to help her somehow. You haven’t said what kind of faith system she has, but in both Jewish and Christian frameworks she might benefit from learning something about the joy of the Lord. And every time she expresses anger at something is the time to counter with the joy of the Lord, if you can counter with a joyful or at least comforting attitude. “See, things are not so terrible. God is here. God will help you too.”
I think you mentioned Catholic, actually. We’d discussed your situation early and I said that if you were matrilineally Jewish they’d take you in a Jewish congregation with no problem. And you said no, that was patrilineal.
Catholic congregations vary so, so much. Some are stiffly legalistic. The church clergy becomes a salvation gate committee, so to speak. If you don’t toe the line exactly the way they say, then you go to hell. And that’s very sad because it isn’t true. The bible quotes Jesus: “No one shall snatch them out of My hand.”
All I can say is, when Jesus meets my mother, he’s going to have a hell of a time turning the other cheek.
If you would like more information about Oregon, please FReepmail me. I lost my Oregon list when my computer crashed last month.
[The bible quotes Jesus: “No one shall snatch them out of My hand.”]
And this is blockbuster spiritual news. Ah, if you could write a musical of your choice, ma’am, you should write it about this. It is spiritually pro-life. It is victory.
Blame Baptists for being prudish about drink, but they got THIS one right square on the nose. Maybe if there is a Baptist congregation she might be persuaded to visit, she’d hear about this?
Well, I think she’s going to have a big, big cry when she realizes how gracious Jesus is.
Exactly! Would love to see this dame’s house and all her expensive electronic toys; would love to see her at the salon getting hairweaves and Lee press-on nails, etc. etc. etc.
Why does she wish to remain anonymous?
