I know I'll get slammed for this but I don't care...I have *no* sympathy for this girl.I'd have *enormous* sympathy for her if her plight began with a slip on the ice,a bad blow to the head (causing confusion...or worse) and *thnn* the exposure to extreme temps. But tequila shots? like I said...*no* sympathy.

Don’t be an ass. You have never made a mistake in your life? I have made plenty but never had to pay the high price this poor girl paid.

You perhaps are feeling a little Pharisaic? This world groans with grief yet you face it with a cold heart?

I have a friend whose brother got blind drunk in his own home one night. For some reason he decided to go outside to urinate when he passed out in the backyard. It was -7 at the time.

No one noticed for 12 hours. It took 2 days to thaw him for the autopsy, not that one was really necessary.

Yeah, you’ll get slammed for it, and you should. That mentality does us no favors whatsoever. People, including you, do things everyday that could go badly. 19 year olds do it in spades.
It’s pure rude cold-hearted jackassery to only be willing to spare a little sympathy for a pretty little 19 year old girl getting her body mutilated if she lives a pious life of perfect decision-making.

When I was young and stupid, I had too much to drink on occasion and passed out. Lucky for me I never passed out in -17 degree weather.

But don’t you think the consequences of a little stupidity are rather harsh and disproportionate to the stupid act, which I don’t dispute was stupid and irresponsible — but it’s sad that as a result of that her entire life is destroyed.

Let the person who has NEVER done anything stupid in their life throw the first stone.

There but for the grace of God go I, as they say...

There isn't a person her age going who doesn't rely on the grace of God and good fortune to get him over the hump of that terrible age when the body is mature but the mind is still that of a child. She's got my sympathy. It costs me nothing to give it to her, and she'll get nothing from it.

"But tequila shots? like I said...*no* sympathy."

That's right, tequila shots. She didn't abort a baby, she didn't run someone over in the street. She had some tequila shots. Did you ever drink at all when you were her age? Perhaps a little irresponsibly?

Her punishment for those shots is going to be difficult and lifelong.

It doesn't benefit a person to be cold and heartless.

I agree with you my fellow devout Muslim brother GSC, it is indeed the will of Allah that infidel drinking be punished with amputations.

NO SYMPATHY !! Cut off all their limbs!!!

It's so nice to meet someone who has never been young (or even older) and made a stupid decision. < /s >

Your Christian empathy is off the charts... on the low end.

Then you haven’t a shred of human decency. Stupid kids do stupid stuff. I have and so have my kids. Maybe you’ve walked around with a stick up your butt all your life, but normal people have not.

The reality is that it is MORE painful to experience consequences of our own foolishness than those that are purely accidental because we have to live with regret and guilt on top of the painful experience.

Sometimes people deserve horrible things to happen to them. Sometimes even worse than what does happen. That might be the case here. On the other hand, compassion is a positive, godly quality that is desperately needed in the world. It costs you nothing. And you may find yourself in need of it some day yourself.

Be a little more compassionate, bro. Most of us made bad decisions in our youth; usually we didn’t lose limbs over them.

Wow - a true hard-line "pay for your mistakes" attitude.

I'm curious, have you never made a stupid mistake and got lucky? If a son or daughter made a similar mistake and ended up paying the price, would your heart stay so firm? Is it a universal attitude or just a 'it doesn't affect me or mine so the hell with them" attitude?
