Tens of thousands in the Northeast and Midwest who spent Christmas in the dark and cold after a vicious ice storm are likely to be waiting until the weekend for their power to be restored, utility firms said early Thursday.
For many people in Maine -- proportionally the hardest-hit state there looked to be more misery on the way, with a second bout of snow and cold temperatures threatening to put even more people in the dark.

Prepper PING!!
In other news, the President enjoyed his vacation with a round of golf and time spent on the beach.
Didn’t even offer and extension cord.
I wonder how do the keep the Island from flipping over with Obama and all his entourage on it? ;-)
Tens of thousands in the Northeast and Midwest who spent Christmas in the dark and cold after a vicious ice storm...
Aw, that ding-blasted, gosh-darned imaginary anthropogenic global warming!
That’s the result of G-O-B-U-L-L warming!
I’m slightly north of Hastings, power went out early Sunday morning, came back Tuesday afternoon. I wasn’t expecting it before this weekend.
Fortunately, I beat the rush to buy a generator Sunday.
Obama’s FEMA is too busy gearing up for the upcoming wars with white Christians, patriots and the Tea Party to have much concern about minor disruptions like this.
This paragraph jumped out at me:
“In Owosso, Mich., 8-year-old Shyann Decator was able to stay positive despite spending Christmas Day in a Salvation Army shelter with her mother, Mandy Fisher.
“[It was] overwhelming at first a little bit,” Fisher told NBC station WEYI. “Not knowing if we could go home for Christmas but we’ve been taken care of.”
I don’t dis the Salvation Army, but I’m wondering...could this story be using them for conditioning for the camps the govt has planned for us eventually?...They’ll take such good care of us. Just like they are now.
Conservatives love FEMA as long as they’re getting their cut. Just watch any thread about a big natural disaster and note how many of our fellow FReepers whine that Obama hasn’t given anything to “red states”.
That’s nothing compared to the rants of ‘Conservatives’ who don’t think you should take any action to provide for yourself in an event of an emergency. That not ‘fair’ don’t you know?
Unlike those FReepers who are too stupid to keep their mouth shut about all their “planning”. LOL
Every year they get ice storms in the Northeast and people lose their power. It looks like sooner or later the power companies would put these power lines underground.
Putting them underground may be more trouble than its worth. I hit water at 2 feet when its dry on the surface.
They did just bury my phone and cable but they don’t carry much current.

Here in Central KY they have evacuation plans in place in the event the Army Depot goes sideways. We will not be “allowed” to pick up our kids from school, as they will be bused to evacuation shelters.
I’ve hammered it into my kids’ heads...’do not get on the bus’, come hell or high water, I’m getting you.
My sister lives in Leslie and had the same as you. My friends in Lansing are having a tough time. Some got their power back Christmas Eve and some are still without power.
The dividing line was somewhere around Mason as my sister drove to work in Lansing and by the time she hit Mason there was a solid coating of ice on everything and it is still there today due to the temps.
I dated a Serbian woman who told me that forced evacuations took place there by putting children on a bus and sending them to a distant camp. Parents were provided a similar bus to go be with their kids.
It was when they started separating the men that things really went bad.
