Yes indeed we do. I am amazed to read of purported conservatives/Christians having to “consider” whether it’s asking too much to give up their meals at Cracker Barrel. My goodness, wouldn’t want to ask them make any “real” sacrifice over anything as insignificant as a “principle”.
The way I read the article, A&E is going to air episodes that have already been taped. That doesn’t mean they are going to continue taping new shows with Phil Robertson and the family or that he’s been rehired (so to speak).
It appears A&E is airing the pre-filmed episodes and trying to make it look as though all is forgiven and the family is on board with it.
I know that the 75% drop in viewers has been widely reported among conservative websites, but really, it is a very bogus number.
Comparing last Thursday’s repeats with this Thursday repeats showed some showings were down, some were up.
The bogus number comes from comparing the season finale with the repeats that were part of the marathon. Obviously a new aired episode will draw many more viewers than a repeat.
“Follow the money. When someone says it’s not about the money, it’s always about the money...”
A&E and Duck Commander are getting free advertising, name brand recognition, Web ad hits, and REVENUE.
This was guerrilla marketing, and kabuki theater.
Those shows were already taped....
No such thing as bad publicity, just get the name right.
Thanks KinkU. I hadn’t delved into it that deeply. Appreciate the mention.
and to know Cracker Barrel decided to jump in the middle of it all...... Idiots
You need to come wipe off my keyboard now ;-)
Boy I hope they do, I can’t see any downside to leaving A&E, heck in two days time, over 10% of the number of viewers of their #1 cable show (1.5 million) have supported them on Facebook, they’ll follow to whatever channel would provide a good home. You can bet the phones are buzzing...
Let the puss...I mean wimps at A&E explain to the shareholders how their great ‘business decision’ put them back in the bottom tier of low-rated cable channels, alongside the home shopping channel and MSNBC.
So, Phil's talks before congregations was just the groundwork for the whole GQ interview so that the interviewer could ask questions he knew would result in conservative answers, and was publicized by A&E in concert with Duck Commander so that they could profit off of the explosion of attention?
Somehow, I doubt that.
The Gays & Lesbians Against American Decency can stick it up their A**es
Or A&E could be more creative, and replace Phil's head with Joe Biden’s head. After all, Slow Joe is a noted authority on shotguns. He would fit right in.
Though I suspect they’ve already been up to some editing. Doesn’t the Robinson family always end their Grace with, “In Jesus’ name”?
I didn’t hear it the other night, and it sounded like it had been cut out to me.
The war may still be on.
I see.... PAY me NOW or pay me later...
Somebody has a good agent..
As I understand it the drop was for reruns they just ran the weekend before, so I don’t know how significant that is. I suspect the new season will have higher ratings at least at first, as a lot of folks who never watched it will check it out to see what it’s all about. It’s also kind of odd to show 9 new episodes in Jan that feature Phil, while claiming he is suspended. My guess is the bigwigs at A&E are kicking themselves and looking for a way to back down.
On a side note I just heard that Cracker Barrel announced they will continue to sell Duck Commander merchandise, but will no longer sell Duck Dynasty stuff. Take that A&E.
They had 9 or 10 episodes of DD filmed and in the can when the perverts got their panties in a wad over Phill’s comments and A&E caved to them. So A&E wont need Phill for a few months. I hope the Robertson family decides they don’t need A&E. I don’t need A&E or any other company that decides not to sell DC products or advertize them.
In the end, it will be a big win-win for Phil, A&E, and the Duck Dynasty franchise.
Interesting.
If ratings hit the skids what get the blame, the boycott or what Phil said?
If Phil comes out with an apology, he will lose the strong fan base he has.
That would be a big mistake for Phil.
With or without A&E, DD fans will follow the family to whatever network
they land. However, if Phil comes out with an apology, his fans will desert
him.
