Two US military aircraft have been fired at during an evacuation mission in South Sudan, wounding two service personnel.
One is said to be in a critical condition, and it is thought at least one of the planes was damaged.
South Sudan has blamed the attack on renegade troops.
Officials said the aircraft were heading to Bor, the capital of the state of Jonglei and the scene of some of the country's worst violence in the past week.
After being fired at the planes turned around and headed to Kampala in Uganda. From there the wounded service personnel were flown to Nairobi, Kenya for medical treatment.
Fighting broke out in the South Sudanese capital Juba between army factions last Sunday and has since spread to other regions.

As I understand, Sudan once had a sizable Christian population. Large segments have been martyred or escaped to other African nations. Those remaining are in South Sudan.
Here is a plea for prayers:

For this action both ships were awarded the Navy Unit Commendation.

And my Academy graduate uncle who was the skipper of the Maddox was awarded a Bronze Star and sent to run an ROTC at a Texas university. End of career! There was another officer aboard in charge of the mission - intelligence gathering - who outranked my uncle. I never learned what happened to his career.
It’s a squadron (not squad) of A-10s. The avenger cannon is 30MM (not 20MM). The USAF wants to retire A-10’s ASAP.
Between the incompetent administration, which announced we were going in, and the media, which carried the administration's water and published we were going in, is it any wonder our forces were compromised?
Prayers for the wounded.
The point is there shouldn’t be any wounded. Obama is quite the warmonger.
Typical. African strongman takes power, decides all the goodies belong to him. For the rest of his natural life. Result? Civil war.
Are you describing the Sudan or the United States?
Good question. . .and I found an interesting article a while back that addresses your thought.

“a squad of A-10s and pummel them with 20mm cannon fire”
That would be a ‘flight’ (or squadron) of A-10’s and hammer them with their Fist of Gawd 30mm round (not the 20mm pop-gun found on lesser fighters): http://www.hightech-edge.com/wp-content/uploads/20mm-30mm-comparison.jpg
;-)
A-10’s funded through 2030. Air Force wants to retire them earlier but because of JSF problems, won’t be able to.
The undocumented Tyrant takes America into yet another war.
This is a military mission to evacuate U.S. citizens trapped by a civil war in another country. A traditional use of our armed services and a use which I very much support. It is very different from intervention on one side or the other.

You can say that again!
One Black Dictator helping another.
I think you spelled that word wrong, I believe it should be “dicktator” and always with a small d for accuracy.
President Obama Orders US Troops to South Sudan
President Obama on Thursday announced that he has sent a team of combat-ready soldiers to the country of South Sudan amid growing violence and increasing talk of “civil war” in the African nation.
What does “combat-ready” mean?
Stars & Stripes says FOUR Americans have been injured.

The bipartisan defense budget that passed through the House Thursday includes strict language mandating the Air Force not execute any plans to retire the A-10 Warthog. The legislation specifically blocks the Air Force from spending any money to divest A-10s through calendar year 2014.
Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh has said the service needs to retired older, single mission aircraft like the A-10 in order to reserve funding for newer aircraft like the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, which is slotted to take over the A-10s close air support role.
In service since the 70s, the twin-engine jet aircraft is designed to provide ground troops with close air support by using its armored fuselage for protection, flying low to the ground to track and hit enemies and firing deadly 30mm rotary cannons.
Lawmakers have pushed back against any talk of the A-10s retirement. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., blocked the nomination of the Air Force secretary, citing her concerns about Air Forces A-10 plans and Defense Department struggles to bring the Joint Strike Fighter online. . .
