A report released Thursday indicates that just about all chicken sold in U.S. stores contains harmful bacteria, and nearly half are tainted with a so-called superbug that's resistant to antibiotics.
The Consumer Reports study, its most comprehensive to date on poultry, tested raw chicken breasts purchased at retail outlets nationwide for six bacteria, then checked for antibiotic resistance. The results showed nearly half of the samples were contaminated with at least one bacterium resistant to three or more classes of antibiotics, what's known as a superbug. Slightly more than 10 percent were tainted with two superbugs.
That finding is cause for alarm, said Urvashi Rangan, a toxicologist and executive director of Consumer Reports National Research Center.
"We're in a public health crisis," Rangan said. "Pharmaceutical companies are not making new antibiotics."

It was ground pork shaped on a stick to look like a drumstick and it was breaded and fried.
McDonalds stole the idea, and turned it into the McRib.
That is why I buy Chlorox.
Some people would freak out about that bread stuffing soaking up bacteria.
Not me.
rip up old bread and dry it out, and chopped carrot, celery, onion, sage, thyme, parsley, rosemary, salt, pepper.
Stuff that bad boy and roast it!
I bought a heavy wire gizmo that allows me to cook two beer can chickens.
I slather the birds inside and out with paprika blend, pour some in the beer cans and cook for 45 minutes on medium gas grill.
Since I posted about cooking the chicken I thought you were saying that cooking doesnt work. I limit how much food I eat out, dont like salt or MSG or poly-hom-fats.
I once got food poisoning symptoms not from chicken but from antchovies sitting out on a not so cold salad (bar) , for lunch.
I threw up from late afternoon ~ 4pm through night with a splitting headache too (very unpleasant) , yet by morning it was gone.
It was cheaper than chicken when I was a kid.
Quite frankly I often select dinner based on price.
You can make anything nice if you know how to cook.

3-4 meals worth of food right there. Roasted chicken on Sunday, chicken sandwiches on Monday and chicken soup on tuesday.
You forgot pot pie.
That is just before the soup.
I’m swearing off the chicken sushi after this.
I have read so many horror stories about restaurants and fast food places. I haven’t eaten at any of them in maybe 20 years except pizza. I don’t actually recall ever getting sick from them tho.
I do know that I never got sick from my Mother’s or my Wife’s cooking. I used to work at a large Summer retreat that served around 3000 people. The food was great but it seemed we had serious food poisoning strike about every Summer.
I remember the Summer of 65. The staff Dr. was passing out some kind of opium derivative in paper cups. He literally had gallons of it. I just remembered it was paregoric.
I dont eat raw fish either.
All raw meat contains some level of bacteria. All bacteria are effectively killed by proper preparation and cooking.
Exactly.
This isn’t a chicken problem, it is a handling and cooking problem.
I just mix a can of vegall, and a can of cream of chicken in with the scraps, adjust seasoning, put in a baking dish and cover with Bisquick.
Not as good as a real crust, but pretty tasty.
That is one of my end of the world prepper recipes.
You can use canned chicken and powdered milk.
Why eats beans out of a tin if you have fire?
**If it smells funky it is funky!**
Which includes most bagged salads.
Most urban schools do not have home ec anymore and “health” class is all about free condoms and how to get an abortion w/o telling your parents.
Cheese and fermented items tend to be the only exception.
