The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says it will work to change its strategic plan to ensure the safety of the U.S.s growing population of older drivers and passengers.
In a statement released earlier this week, the NHTSA says its changes are the result of the growing population of elderly drivers. The agency says it will make a number of changes, including researching a number of advanced vehicle technologies including vehicle-to-vehicle communications, refining its data collection systems, and shifting its focus to efforts on public education and identifying functional changes including vision, strength, flexibility and cognition.
NHTSAs Older Driver Highway Safety Program Guidelines are based on best practices around the country and include countermeasures that can be implemented to ensure the safety of older drivers, including at-risk drivers, the agency said in a statement. The guidelines encourage state highway safety offices to work closely with driver license officials, state departments of transportation, medical providers and aging services providers, among others.
The agency was careful to note that the changes are not the result of any changes in how the elderly are driving, but rather the result of a changing environment and a better, more complete understanding of safety practices.
Although older drivers are some of the safest drivers on our roads, our plan builds upon the NHTSAs current work to help older people drive as safely and as long as possible, said NHTSA Administrator David Strickland.
The article fails to specify at what age “elderly” is.
I think the Cummins is the only way to go. Especially the older ones.
They also made a 3.9 4cyl turbo, they used them in UPS and bread trucks. If you wanted to do a 1/2 ton build of any brand, that would net you great fuel mileage.
If you do want to build something, make friends with a body man or used car dealer and go to an auction with him. Trucks are pretty much bolt together, and if the price is right you can afford to do a lot of fixing for the price of a used one off the lot.
And by the way, if you do decide to go that route, you can get either a used or reman. VW diesel engine from the VW Parts Place in Plains MI....

Perhaps she should include herself in that category too? Bigotry is a two way street, hate and bigotry beget hate and bigotry.
She’s a little off base regarding the root of the problem being the Southern USA. If IIRC, there were some black people who captured other blacks from other tribes in Africa, and sold them to slave traders. And wasn’t it the ships from Spain that brought lots of slaves to the USA?
And one might ask, what is the biggest killer of young blacks today? Is it not a black on black condition whether from abortion, or the violence in the “hood”?
“Hundreds of thousands of perfectly good used cars intentionally destroyed.
Why?”
It was payback for FUBO’s “RAT contributors” after he had purged substantial numbers of the “Republican” automobile dealerships that were needlessly put out of business as part of the GM and Chrysler “restructuring.” When you add up the collective billions of dollars that our worthless government has pi$$ed away to abet their political aims, you probabily have a good start on retiring the national debt.
I watched, as part of the “stimulus” a freeway refurbishment near where I live, all the “handicapped ramps” on the sidwalks that intersected the on/off ramps dug up (that were perfectly fine) and replaced almost to the exact same configuration save the fact that the areas where the “yellow bumpy $hit for the blind” went now had a depression so that those sheets now sat down flush with the surface of the concrete. I have lived here for 40 years. The freeway has been here for at least 30 years. I have never seen a blind person attempting to cross any of these on/off ramps EVER! This was a multi-hundred thousand dollar job!
Will you have to prove you have the strength and flexibility to change the tire yourself? Tripe A might have to report the elderly. NOTHING would surprise me while the R’s have strength they choose not to use to put this ‘illegal’ under the thumb.
Once they as deemed ‘insufficient’ to drive, they won’t waste medical treatment on them - just bandaids.
Watched the video........... Oprah is one scary person.
