Tunes For The Troops     **Artist Showcase** Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) is an American progressive metal band founded in 1993 by producer, composer, and lyricist Paul O'Neill, who brought together Jon Oliva and Al Pitrelli (both members of Savatage) and keyboardist and co-producer Robert Kinkel to form the core of the creative team. Since then, TSO sold nearly 8 million concert tickets and 8.5 million albums. The band's musical style incorporates classical, orchestral, symphonic, and progressive elements into hard rock and heavy metal. The band is most famous for their series of rock operas: Christmas Eve and Other Stories, The Christmas Attic, Beethoven's Last Night, The Lost Christmas Eve (the final installment of their Christmas trilogy), and their two-disc magnum opus Night Castle. Trans-Siberian Orchestra is also known for their extensive charity work and elaborate concerts, which are complete with a full orchestra, a massive light show, lasers, dozens of pyrotechnics, moving trusses, video screens, and other effects that are synchronized to the music. Both Billboard Magazine and Pollstar have ranked them as one of the top ten ticket-selling bands in the first decade of the new millennium. An absolutely horrible commute on the way in this morning - traffic backed up everywhere - 2 hours. Smooth commute coming home - left early for a doctor's appointment.

We were in the 60's when I left the castle this morning - in the 40's when I returned. The ice, sleet and slop that has bedeviled the Heartland is on its way here.

Lynn-dah has another doctor appointment tomorrow, and then I need to teach some children at their grandmother’s house because their mom just underwent brain surgery. Then I need to get the band together for a rehearsal, even though we have lost our venue, I don’t want us to lose our music!

I had the good fortune to meet Gen. Tryon at that Parade. It turns out that he, after graduating from the Naval Academy and passing Basic School at Quantico, had his first posting as Platoon Commander of 3rd Platoon, Lima 3/5 - my old outfit. It was great having the opportunity to chat with him.
