PACHUCA, Mexico (AP) - Federal police blocked access Friday to a central Mexico hospital where six people were reported to have been admitted with radiation exposure.
An official familiar with the case confirmed Mexican media reports that the six have been admitted to the general hospital in the city of Pachuca and may have been exposed to a stolen source of cobalt-60.

Guessing these were the hapless hijackers?

They’ll get super-powers. Maybe they’ll be able to eat bean burritos without farting.

You know the media is going to cover up the facts of this one, big time.

This all sounds like the media cover story in an as yet unwritten episode of the X-Files :-)

Possible dirty bomb, then. Hopefully they’ll find out enough to stop an attack. Either way, the story will get much bigger (when it’s used) or will completely disappear.

I was reading whre they recovered the stolen truck. And the cobalt-60 was found a half mile away. I’m not too up to date on my haz mat chemicals, but I do know this.
There are some stupid (soon to be dead) Mexicans about.

The family that found this on their property took it into their home and opened it, so these may be some f the ones who are at the hospital.

They could be innocent poor people who thought they found some scrap metal that they could sell for a few pesos.

It raised concerns that the material could have been stolen to make a dirty bomb, a conventional explosive that disseminates radioactive material. But Mexican officials said that the thieves seemed to have targeted the cargo truck with moveable platform and crane, and like didn't know about the dangerous cargo. Would be interesting to see the stats on similar hijackings of large cargo trucks in Mexico. Is this a common crime or unheard of; somewhere in between?
