Trace Adkins - You're Gonna Miss This
She was starin' out the window of their SUV Complainin', sayin', I can't wait to turn eighteen She said, I'll make my own money and I'll make my own rules Momma, put the car in park out there in front of the school And she kissed her head, and said, I was just like you
You're gonna miss this You're gonna want this back You're gonna wish these days Hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times So take a good look around You may not know it now But you're gonna miss this
Before she knows it she's a brand new bride In her one bedroom apartment and her daddy stops by He tells her it's a nice place, she says, It'll do for now Starts talkin' about babies and buyin' a house Daddy shakes his head and says, Baby, just slow down
Cuz' you're gonna miss this You're gonna want this back You're gonna wish these days Hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times So take a good look around You may not know it now But you're gonna miss this
Five years later there's a plumber Workin' on the water heater Dog's barkin', phone's ringin' One kid's cryin' and one kid's screamin' And she keeps apologizin'
He says, They don't bother me I've got two babies of my own One's thirty-six, one's twenty-three Huh, it's hard to believe
But you're gonna miss this You're gonna want this back You're gonna wish these days Hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times So take a good look around You may not know it now But you're gonna miss this
You're gonna miss this Yeah, you're gonna miss this

Teach Your Children - Crosby Stills & Nash
You, who are on the road must have a code that you can live by. And so become yourself because the past is just a good bye. Teach your children well, their father's hell did slowly go by, And feed them on your dreams, the one they fix, the one you'll know by. Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry, So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.
And you, of the tender years can't know the fears that your elders grew by, And so please help them with your youth, they seek the truth before they can die. Teach your parents well, their children's hell will slowly go by, And feed them on your dreams, the one they fix,the one you'll know by. Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry, So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

Here's some family music making of a different sort.
In 1818, the 21 year old Franz Schubert took a walking trip through the Austrian Alps. While there, he was the guest of Sylvester Paumgartner, a wealthy merchant, whose whole family consisted of string players. Old Sylvester played a mean string bass.
Sylvester asked Schubert to write a piece that included a set of variations on his song, "The Trout". Schubert wrote a five movement Quintet for Piano and Strings in A Major. The string complement was different from the usual: one each violin, viola, cello and bass. Schubert wrote out the string parts, and the family sat down one night and played this piece. Schubert didn't write out the piano part, however. It was all in his head, and he played it from memory.
This video is of a group that billed itself as the Kosher Nostra. On first violin was Itzhak Perlman; on viola, Pinchas Zuckerman; on cello, Jacqueline du Pre, who is now deceased; on string bass, Zubin Mehta, usually seen as a conductor; on piano, Daniel Barenboim, who was married to Jackie at the time. This video is a major document of the Sixties.

First Impressions
November 29, 2013
Read: 1 Samuel 16:1-7
As I shopped for groceries one day, I was perceived as a thief by one person and a hero by another.
As I exited the supermarket, an employee said, Excuse me, Sir. There are too many unbagged items in your cart. This is evidently a strategy used by shoplifters. When he saw that they were products too big to be bagged, he apologized and sent me on my way.
In the parking lot, a woman glanced at my gold embroidered sportsmans cap. Mistaking it for a military hat, she said, Thank you for defending our country! Then she walked away.
The supermarket employee and the woman in the parking lot had each formed hasty conclusions about me. Its easy to form opinions of others based on first impressions.
When Samuel was to select the next king of Israel from the sons of Jesse, he too made a judgment based on first impressions. However, Gods chosen was not any of the older sons. The Spirit told Samuel, Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature (1 Sam. 16:7). God chose David, the youngest, who looked least like a king.
God can help us view people through His eyes, for the Lord does not see as man sees; . . . the Lord looks at the heart (v.7).
If we could view through eyes of faith
The people we meet each day
Wed quickly see Gods gracious hand
In all who come our way. D. DeHaan
First impressions can often lead to wrong conclusions.
