Radio giant Rush Limbaugh is scorching the leader of the Roman Catholic Church for criticizing unfettered capitalism, saying, This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the pope.
You know the pope, Pope Francis has issued an official papal proclamation, and its sad, Limbaugh said on his national broadcast Wednesday. Its actually unbelievable. Its sad because this pope makes it very clear he doesnt know what hes talking about when it comes to capitalism and socialism and so forth.
Im not Catholic, Limbaugh added, but up until this I admired the man.
In the 84-page document titled Evangelii Gaudium, which was released Tuesday, Pope Francis called upon politicians to provide dignified work, education and health care to all citizens.
The commandment Thou shalt not kill sets a clear limit in order to safeguard the value of human life, wrote the pope. Today we also have to say thou shalt not to an economy of exclusion and inequality. Such an economy kills.
Noting that he had visited the Vatican numerous times, Limbaugh observed wryly: Believe me, it wouldnt exist without tons of money. Somebody has either written this for [the pope] or gotten to him. This is pure Marxism.

“...spend a few hours studying Marxism...”
Ok, enlighten us about the nuances of Marxism if people of incapable of “knowing it when you see it”.
Why does / does not it apply to the Pope in the context of his statements, or do you deny the statements occurred at all?
Do you have an opinion on the matter?
Do you have something to say other than you think some radio host and his listeners are stupid?
Your point regarding a misperception of a healthy desire as greed is well made. Yet, I would also note that given our fallen nature, sorting out a healthy desire for a positive outcome and an unhealthy desire for a positive outcome, as well as what is actually a positive outcome, is very complex.
There’s the rub.
You’ll get no argument from me on that. Someone else tried to raise the distinction. I posted the link to illustrate the very practical similarities. So we agree.
“rush is for rush and ratings. period.”
Yes, and lately Rush has decided to boost his ratings by verbal bomb throwing. First the whole “slut” thing, and now trashing the Holy Father. Sure it’ll tick off millions of people, and maybe even cost a few sponsors. But if it gets ratings, that’s all tha matters.
and a happy Thanksgiving to you to........except you might want to check your ignorance at the dinner table when you spout the multiple points the current administration wants you to give to the rest who are at your table.
The idea that unfettered capitalism causes dirty air and water in China is beyond stupid, capitalism had nothing to do with the pollution there, however, state controlled monopoly directives DID cause it.
The finest example of so called "unfettered" capitalism was Taiwan before the Chicoms took it over. There was little to no pollution as a result, people were incredibly entrepreneurial, very little poverty, and pollution was under control. they were once a perfect example of "unfettered" capitalism.
This is a long story, but listen up, and listen well: Peter Lynch was the head of the Magellan Fund (a great winner in the world of unfettered capitalism, even a better record than Warren Buffet). I heard him relate the story of his father bringing him all over the world as a young boy just after WWII. They visited the rubble of some fifty countries in the West and the East, all around the globe. In the early to mid 1990's, after he left Magellan, he took his family around the same exact itinerary. According to him, EVERY country with a top down statist economy was not far removed from the state of rubble he had seen as a child (dirty, lots of poverty, little hope), and EVERY country that came close to "unfettered" capitalism was not only quite well off, having lifted themselves from the rubble, but had far less pollution and far greater hope as a culture. To the degree that each country had a top down statist approach, was the degree of poverty, misery, and pollution.
I don't know what the Pope said, but if he came anywhere near what was reported, the man simply needs to continue on another subject, as he may be as ignorant on this subject as you are.
Perhaps he needed trashing. A little truth should not be a problem. Anti American positions are not acceptable and the reason for the 1st amendment.
“Perhaps he needed trashing. A little truth should not be a problem. Anti American positions are not acceptable and the reason for the 1st amendment.”
Where and when did Pope Francis say or write ANYTHING that was Anti-American. Love of Mammon has warped your sensibilities.
“”Capitalism” is a Marxist term, used to slander free enterprise.”
Go ahead and tell me that Rush Limbaugh is a Marxist. He uses the term ‘capitalism’ all the time. It is not a Marxist term.
The Pope is a Commie. Didn’t see that one coming.
“the common good of society”
Ever been to Pennsylvania? How about Massachusetts? Kentucky? Virginia? They’re not states. They’re ‘commonwealths’. Their founding fathers believed in the ‘common good’, hence the name ‘commonwealth’.
Read John Locke on the subject: http://www.lonang.com/exlibris/locke/loc-210.htm
“vladimir988: Free market capitalism does not mean theft is legal.”
I didn’t say that. I said that about unfettered capitalism.
“Protection of property and transfer of property is part of unfettered capitalism.”
No, it is not. That’s the point, hence, the ‘unfettered’.
“Interference with these rights, or selective protection of them, is not.”
I want a Free Market, with lots of freedom. I don’t want ‘unfettered capitalism’. And I still want people to be charitable in the Christian sense. I want a lot and will get little of it. That’s how life works.
Well said.
Either a lib troll or a FR member’s lib kid. I say this due to the maturity/intelligence level of the posts.
Here is a much earlier FR posting of Rush’s entire monologue that the wnd writer is referring to.

And how does that differ from what Limbaugh said? Just another word for Socialist.
“You could ask my Polish relatives.”
Didn’t know that the Nazi’s were in Mexico during WWII! Not a valid comparison. The “new” Pope owns what he has said. But then again, most, if not all religions are socialist at their core. Just look at how the recently retired Archbishop of Los Angeles(Mahoney) fomented trouble over illegal immigration. He basically said that his ( and by extension the Catholic Church’s) view trumps the laws of our country. He should have been put in jail
Splendid post, vlad, among several other excellent ones on this thread.
And me too. I have wondered about conservatives appearing as though something was stuck in their throat when expounding on the condition of abject poverty, its causes and effects.
Your post cleared that up for me. It’s been my own conscience. It’s said, somewhere, that we all have one. :)
Rush is uninformed and completely wrong here.
