Early Friday morning on Foxs Red Eye, host Greg Gutfeld finally broke the silence and announced the departure of long-time repulsive sidekick and panelist Bill Schulz.
The brief announcement came after a prolonged, unexplained Schulz absence from the show.
A lot of viewers have wondered where the heck Bill Schulz went, Gutfeld said. Sad to say he has decided to move on from the show. Hes been a close friend of mine for 13 years, and hes been a huge part of Red Eye since its inception, and we wish him the best.
No further reason was given for his departure.
Schulz had been with Red Eye from its inception on February 5, 2007, until this departure, often serving as the butt end of the shows running gags and foil to host Gutfeld.
UPDATE: Mediaite received the following comment from the network, via a Fox News spokesperson:
Fox News and Bill Schulz have decided to amicably part ways.

Nice guy.
Hope he is well.
I wonder if he will go to work for the O regime?
I’ll miss him. Its not easy coming up with wacko stuff that is also context relevant.
agreed..his views were horrid.. but it is clear from everyone who knows him, that he is a good soul... just wrong, wrong, wrong on everything.
I wondered where he was. These things are rarely “amicable.”
Any kin to Special Ed?....................
I’m not sure a lot of the things he said were actually what he believed.
Now he will get a job with the MSM where he trashes Fox News, isn’t that what usually happens?
Awww, poo. Yes he was repulsive and his humor was bizarre but I was getting used to him.
I wonder if he will go to work for the O regime?
I sincerely doubt it. Bill is a comedian who played the role of presenting the left's view. He is no kool-aid drinker, and enjoyed mocking the left just as much as he enjoyed mocking the right. Red Eye has had a significant drop off with him gone these last few weeks. Actually, it started when Greg moved Andy Levy (who is never funny and needs to lose his annoying habit of constantly staring at the camera) on to the table. He seems like a nice guy but he is hurting the show. If someone involved with the show reads the thread I need to be honest and say that I have loved Red Eye since 2002 but I probably won't watch as much unless you work very hard at finding a good replacement for Bill. And I know it won't be easy. I know this is a tough call since Andy was the one who discovered Greg, but, Andy, you are not the talent and you are hurting the show.
Awwww, that’s sad. Bill has an incredible wit, was as quick as Greg Gutfeld himself, and that’s not easy to do, and was the perfect foil for Greg. Plus he grew up in a Chicago suburb, like myself, and had that Midwestern droll sense of humor. I hope he is happy whatever he chooses to do next in life.
I kind of like him too.
I always blame Red Eye for not allowing me to sleep all night. I always fall asleep with FOX on and I usually wake up about 3-3:30 to use the bathroom. Red Eye is on and I can’t go back to sleep.
Red Eye and The 5 are my to favorite Fox shows. I think I have a thing for Greg Gutfeld.
I never got that Bill was "playing" a lefty. I always knew he was only playing along with Greg's jokes about being homeless, or smelling bad, or being a hermaphrodite; but that when he started on the lib talking points I assumed that was really him.
“I know this is a tough call since Andy was the one who discovered Greg, but, Andy, you are not the talent and you are hurting the show.”
I don’t share your feelings about Andy being detrimental in
any way to the show. He too has a good sense of humor and is very quick; his humor is just of a different sort than Bill’s is, and I’m not sure it’s fair to make a comparison between the two. They bring different viewpoints to the show. Andy is basically a Libertarian, whereas as Bill was more of a leftist. Andy is a deeper thinker on issues and therefore is a bit darker in commentary; Bill was more flight of fantasy and a free thinker, quick on the draw with the witticisms.
Andy, I might add, was in the military, and that makes me automatically fond of him. I think Andy will do just fine over time, as he acclimates himself to his new position on the show. I wonder if the show will now hire someone to replace Andy’s old job doing the halftime show, etc. And I wonder if we will ever find out the real story as to why Bill left the show.
After I noticed he was definitely gone about a week ago I started watching every night, thinking it might have been an elaborate gag -having him disappear for a while and not saying anything about it. So when Greg literally spent two sentences on it and then moved on to a video of a kitten attacking a puppy I figured there was much more to the story. If he was just getting his own show on MSNBC, no doubt they would have had some fun with it. On the other hand, Bill and Greg like to joke A LOT about drug abuse. I recognize that most of that is just jokes, but as I have some experience with that in my family, I hope for Bill's sake it's not that.
You just made my point for me. Nobody's looking for deep thoughts at 3:30 in the morning.
I share your respect for Andy's military service, but I wouldn't watch a comedy show featuring General David Petraeus either.
I did not say Bill is not a Democrat. I said he was playing a role on the show. But he was first and foremost a comedian. He frequently mocked the president, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, OWS, and any other leftist cause you can think of. That being said, of course he was the liberal. And the show needs to replace him with another one. Greg could say things to him he could not say to liberal guests without the conversation becoming antagonistic. Bill could do the same with Greg. The quality of the show has suffered without him and will continue to do so.
Andy Levy is deadpan which can work if he ever came up with a funny line, but he never does. Levy needs to be moved back to his 'commentator' position or let go. He adds nothing. Greg Gutfeld is still the center of the show but he can't carry it without some foils. I hope Schulz can be replaced with another witty improv comic that can function well in an ensemble such as Red Eye.
I’ve never appreciated that brand of “humor”.
