Recent Attacks Have Targeted Brooklyn Jews; 78-Year-Old Woman Latest Victim
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A disturbing and brutal game among teens is also targeting other victims in other cities.
Just last week, CBS 2’s John Slattery reported on a disturbing series of attack on Jews in Brooklyn. Now we’re find out New York City is not alone.
Brutal video is coming in from various places, including Pittsburgh, where a teacher was attacked, and London, where a teen was hit from behind. On Tuesday afternoon, CBS 2 learned of another victim — a 78-year-old woman attacked a week ago Saturday in Midwood.
It’s called the “knockout game.”
The victim in Pittsburgh was 50-year-old James Addeslpurger. A 15-year-old was charged with assault.
Back in September, 46-year-old Ralph Santiago of Hoboken, N.J., was killed after his head was slammed into an iron fence. The three arrested, who police said were captured on video, were just 13 and 14 years old.
And in the latest incident in Midwood, the victim’s daughter said her mother was attacked in broad daylight by a young man who walked toward her, balled up his fist and hit her with all his might on the top of her head then ran off.
The woman told CBS 2’s Dave Carlin her mother was loaded down with department store bags and a handbag, but there was no attempt to take anything; just to do harm.
“She had her purse, she had bags from department stores. There was not even an attempt to take anything from her. It was just a wanton act to hurt another human being,” the victim’s daughter said.
She said her mother did not go to the hospital and did not report it to police because she thought it was an isolated case, and she didn’t get a good look at the man’s face.
The woman was amazed that anyone could perpetrate such a violent act.
“How would you feel if this was happening to you or a member of your family?” she said, “If you don’t like it to happen to you or a member of your family, don’t do it to someone else.”
What’s happened of late in Brooklyn is just a variation on a theme. Since October, there have been four attacks in Crown Heights.
“It’s ‘knockout,’ and it happens to be a Jew in each and every case,” State Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) said.
He expressed shock at the latest incident in Midwood.
“People think it’s a fun thing to attack somebody – in this case, a person who’s 78 years old,” Hikind told 1010 WINS’ Al Jones.
In the recent attacks in Brooklyn, a 20-year old Israeli man in a hooded jacket was attacked, and another man’s 12-year-old son was hit on his way to Hebrew school.
At a community meeting between blacks and Jews in Crown Heights, an assistant police chief said there have been four such assaults since early October. So, more police have been deployed. Many present said young African-Americans need to be educated about such bias crimes.
“We need to engage these young people and engage their parents,” said the Rev. Taharka Robinson of the Brooklyn Anti-Violence Coalition.
Assemblyman Hikind said that’s fine, but he wants more.
“I’m for people being arrested. That would be the best education in the world,” Hikind said.
Hikind urged the NYPD to catch those responsible quickly and show the “knockout game” is not a game at all.
Many are calling “knockout” another example of peer pressure and showing off, with tragic and sometimes fatal results.
The reason I like the 44 is the noise tends to get folks attention and the range in the proper hands means you can run but you can’t hide. It reminds me of the old AT+T motto ‘Reach out and touch someone’.

Well -- yeah. We weren't born knowing this value, it is taught, particularly in Christianity, one of whose cornerstones is: Love others as you love yourself.
Wasn't it Marx who called religion "opium for the masses"? Yet communism and socialism are so threatened by said "opium" that they must persecute it; lack of it is necesssary for communism to function.
We've taken religion, especially America's Christian heritage, way too much for granted. We mistake as rights and givens the Christian moral foundations of our nation.
I live in a city and black youths open the door for me because I look like someone not to mess with. They’re driving out to the suburbs and picking on wimpy liberals to play “knockout”.
Send them to jail for a family reunion with their Uncles and Fathers so they can be together.
Sending a black youth to jail is like a family reunion.
I like both personally, but the .357 is easier to fire and has more stopping power then the .44.

I’ve read plenty of articles about “not looking like a victim” and a friend of mine who is big into handguns, etc. discussed with me that someone that has a CC handgun tends to carry themself differently. When walking down the street back in the day I “imagined” that I had a concealed gun and also looked very aware of my surroundings.
It probably helped when walking from Greek Town to my hotel (about ten blocks) in Detroit about seven years ago at 1:30 in the morning.

I had the same thought. How would the perp know the religion of the victim unless they were hassidic or wore a yamulka. It wasnt the religion that made them a target.
So the city is going to “educate” their yoots that the KO game is wrong and dangerous. Really? They need to teach that to these thugs? It’s idiotic and I bet it is counter-productive resulting in even more attacks.
Kudos to Greta and Megyn Kelly, except even they conveniently neglected to mention the race of the racial terrorists doing all this knocking out. Nobody mentioned the 500 pound gorilla in the room until O'Reilly.

Not that I am advocating this continue as is, but, if it IS going to happen, I only hope that the intended victim is liberal, survives, and forever onward votes Conservative.
With blacks at between 12 - 15% of the population, WHEN, not IF, a “pushback” of the pathetic NON-JOURNALISTIC PHYSICAL variety begins, obozo will have the race war his DIVISIVE entitlement behavior has been orchestrated to produce — and that’s gonna get lots of good folks — black and white — hurt and/or KILLED! But they better understand that with about a 7 to 1 numerical advantage, the blacks will lose — and lose big.

You have hit the nail on the head. During my little encounter it was not about bravado, it was deterrence before there was a problem. I'm not sorry if those guys felt "profiled", it is not my fault that a culture is running crazy here in America and I am being cautious of my own liberty. Hell, I would do just the same with a couple white junky types that also infest that area of Pittsburgh. I'm equal opportunity.

According to what I heard on Fox last night, some of them have been targeting Hasidic Jews, who wear their own form of attire.
You see, if the Yutes could only simply be shown that sucker-punching old Jews unconscious is a "bias crime", they certainly wouldn't want to continue doing it.
Agreed. It’s been going on for years and they’ve known all about it. I’m not even sure if Jewish folks are considered a “minority” or not, but it sure seems like they needed minority “cover” before the big networks were even willing to mention it.
