Detectives believe the suspect broke through the front gate with his car, crashed into another car, then broke some windows to get into the home of an elderly couple in their 60s. "I thought we were dead." "We are so lucky we had a gun," the wife said.

Except in NYC where Bloomie would have said they should have had a phone to call 911 .....
Lucky indeed.
Now that the press is assaulting George Zimmerman once again, an article like this reminds Americans why we have gun rights.
Some thug breaks into my home I am not going to be asking questions. Not one!
I think George’s girlfriend and soon to be ex-wife are in this together. They’re trying to get George disarmed, and I suspect the soon to be ex-wife has a large life insurance policy on poor George.
Between the ex-wife and the Black crazies trying to kill him, he is better off far, far away from Florida.
This is why the left wants to take guns away from normal, honest, hard-working non-violent people and deliberately leave them in the hands of violent criminals.
(so they can waltz right in and take what is ‘rightfully’ theirs)
I thought Zimmerman’s phone call to 911 to give his side of the story was brilliant.
I have no idea who is telling the truth here.
But, the fact that Zimmerman had the composure to call 911, in real time, and give a calm and plausible and taped explanation for what was happening in the house certainly lends some credibility to his defense.
Bump for reference
“...elderly couple in their 60s....” I hadn’t thought that sixties translated to “elderly” yet. Maybe it is denial on my part, as I edge closer to 60 each year.
... as I edge closer to 60 each year.
Been there. Done that.
My wife of 51 years and me are 73 years old but we sure don’t feel or act as if we were old.
Not a good move, honey. The bad guys now know you're a sitting duck so will wait for hubby to leave before breaking in.
“Elderly Couple”
Yeah, my first thought, too.
I’m almost 64, but I just got home from my daily 5 mile jog.
However, the husband in the article has a lot of health issues, so the writer probably had that in mind, too.
“Some thug breaks into my home I am not going to be asking questions. Not one!”
How about, “.357 or .45 - which do you prefer?” ;)
Buckley, about 12 miles east of me, and I’m 20 miles from Tacoma.
I have friends who live there, and have something I need to do out that way next Monday or Tuesday.
Buckley is also where that fat “prepper” on National Geographic lives, who said he had the guns and ammo (and homemade bullet “proof” vest) to take what he wants from anyone.
Not in rural Washington State. Several years ago there was a rash of home break-ins, and subsequent shootings of the robbers. A sheriff said something like “It’s open season on criminals here.”
