Vance McAllister, a political newcomer with the backing of the popular "Duck Dynasty" TV family, is Louisiana's newest member of Congress.
McAllister, who largely self-funded his campaign, beat establishment candidate Neil Riser, a state senator, in Saturday's runoff election for the vacant 5th District seat.
Both men are Republicans.

There are a couple of “Jindal derangement syndrome” loons on this thread, eh? They sound like the people that voted for Blanco in 2003.
Like I said, full retard.
Anything to say about the very troubling information about McAllister, any of youse? This is reminding me of the twerps who are pimping Liz Cheney.
McCallister was endorsed by Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo and Former Congressman Cleo Fields. We know absolutely nothing about him except what he’s told us in his advertising. He’s never been politically active, never shown up at police jury (county commission), city council, or school board meetings.
He’s never written a letter to the editor.
His entire claim to fame is that he’s friends with the Robinson clan, the Duck Commanders.
Riser has a solid voting record in the state senate, and has conservative bona fides. I served with him on the GOP State Central Committee in the late 90s.
As for my good friend Moon Griffon, who I’ve known personally and worked with for twenty years, I’m afraid his antipathy toward Jindal clouded his judgement on this race. Riser is considered a Jindal ally.
Now as for Jindal, he is a RINO. He’s done some things, especially right after he took office in 2008, that I didn’t agree with. He likes to spend money too much. All that was documented right here on FRee Republic at the time. I got into some vociferous fights with fellow FReepers about Jindal.
That said, he’s still been a net plus for the state and he’s had the guts to take on the teacher’s unions. They’re a sworn enemy and they’ve vowed revenge. The state’s scummy newspapers - they all suck, like everywhere else - are anti-Jindal.
There is still a dedicated crew of progressives here in Louisiana. Soros sends them money and they know what they’re doing. They never give up, and they know how to divide and conquer as well as anyone.
I need to add that I’m afraid we here in Louisiana have bought a pig in a poke with McAllister. I hope I’m wrong and he will turn out to be a Tea Party type, even though he’s never been active with any of those folks. And I know a lot of them around Northeast Louisiana.
He will have to be watched carefully.
But then, they all have to be watched, don’t they?
Since it was a special election, he will have to run on his record next November. Well, at least he will be a supporter of the 2nd amendment...
So he says. Again, all we have is his word. Riser authored this Louisiana Constitutional Amendment in the Louisiana Legislature.

My thoughts are the same, this was more a vote against Jindal.
Jindal’s unpopularity can be traced to the start of his second term in 2011, when he pushed through all the education reforms. The teacher’s union and the newspapers (they sleep together) vowed retribution and have worked 24/7 ever since to undermine Jindal.
As I noted upthread, I’ve had my differences with Jindal, but on balance, he’s been a net plus for Louisiana.

Look again: "McAllister ran as a political outsider, capitalizing on voter frustration with politicians and Congress. Riser, a funeral home owner, campaigned on his experience in the Legislature and with the support of tea party groups."
who says Phil Robertson doesn’t have clout? This guy had no chance until Phil Robertson came out and endorsed him.
The only reason he got into the runoff, and subsequently won, is the Duck Dynasty endorsement.

General or otherwise LA doesn't hold separate Party Primaries. All Candidates
run on the same ballot. The primary was held on Oct. 19, 2013 with 14 candidates
on the ballot: 5 GOP, 4 DEMS, 2 LIBS, 2 Others, and 1 Green. Top two get into runoff.
Top four were:
Riser, GOP 31.96% McAllister, GOP 17.79% Mayo, DEM 14.82% Holloway, GOP 10.88%
The Duck Commander clan lives in LA-05, and that no doubt went a long way to boosting McAllister to his thumpin’ win.
Makes me glad I live in LA-01. Cleo Fields doing robocalls on your behalf would NOT do well for you here.

This Robertson endorsement, and the fact that I knew Eric Cantor (who I consider a sly proponent of the Bush version of “Immigration Reform”) endorsed his opponent were the reasons I supposed he was the likely most conservative of the two.
I guess I need to be careful about coming to conclusions with very limited information. This special election had very little coverage (at least in the Democratic People’s Republic of Maryland in which I currently must temporarily reside). Some of the above (he supports reparations for slave descendents?) statements seem too preposterous to be real. I guess we’ll have to follow his voting record to see what he is in reality.
CD wide results from all the 25 Parishes in CD 5.
54,449 59.65% Vance M. McAllister 36,837 40.35% Neil Riser
You’re right there’s plenty to criticize Jindal on.
But those that are so affected that they
A)They back inferior candidates just because he’s for the other guy
B)Call him an anchor baby when his parents were LEGAL
Need to wipe the gunk from their eyes and wake up. What a disappointing display of irrationality on their parts. For negative feelings about Jindal to outweigh McCallsters troubling positions on Osamacare and shamnesty and whoring for democrat support (I can’t find any info on him being for “reparations” as Auh2o says, was that in Cleo’s robocall?), sigh.
I’m familiar with the LA jungle-primary system, but I called it a “general election” because (i) that’s what LA election law calls it and (ii) I wanted to explain to FReepers who may be unfamiliar with LA’s system that this wasn’t the type of Republican runoff to which they may be used.
But, but but...Can he call ducks?
But, but but...Can he call ducks?
Yep, LA’s election processes are very different than most of the other states.
