The Betrayal of Ken Cuccinelli
National Review ^ | 11/5/13 | Maggie Gallagher

Posted on 11/06/2013 6:54:56 AM PST by cotton1706

They said he was “unelectable.” The RNC put only $3 million into this race. Ken was outspent by a margin of something between 4:1 and 10:1, if you believe the Associated Press.

The Democrats poured everything into trying to lie to voters and portray Cuccinelli as an extremist — and they barely pulled this one out.

Would another $3 million have swung 50,000 votes? The Republicans, starting with Bill Bolling, who undercut Cuccinelli as unelectable have egg all over their faces.

This was a winnable election. How did we give this away to Terry McAuliffe? Some serious soul-searching should be taking place among the anti-tea-party faction.

Cuccinelli was unelectable. The GOP leadership made sure of that. The party core here did the same thing to Christine O'Donnell. Typical.

So far shutdowns haven't produced anything good.

And why is that? Is it because the ideas of a smaller, more responsible government are wrong, or is it because the GOPe betrayed those ideas?

They do want to “win”. If by “win” you mean their GOP-e compromising DC insiders retain power.

Otherwise, they are willing to let their “friends across the aisle” to keep control.

I totally agree. The first thing I said to myself when I say the headline, “Is this really on National Review?” I rarely visit that site anymore. They are the MSM of the internet.

Cantor doesn’t like KC. It’s a personal thing here in addition to the normal GOPe back stabbing of conservatives.

RE :”So far shutdowns haven't produced anything good.

And why is that?”

Its because not every Republican in congress was elected by a bright Red state ,or bright red district in House.
Because they all have their own constituents and voters.

This case had another wrinkle.
The shutdown or threat of one was supposed to get Reid and Obama to pass a defund bill.

But the shutdown didnt defund Obamacare as it was exempt.

So soon after the GOP was talking instead about partial funding bills and deficit reduction unrelated to Obamacare.

No real plan
No real expection of victory(making Obama-cave on Obamacare)
No team cohesiveness (only got 19 of 100, everyone knew Bohner would pass Senate bill eventually)

Dems never would have passed Obamacare if they fought like this in 2007 and 2008.

I don’t care what he doesn’t like. That is a crap reason to push the election over to someone like Terry.

One of his campaign promises is an outright firearms ban.

Chew on that for a bit.

Great point and it gives me some new focus. How could it have been that nobody knew who was funding that little worm Sarvis’ election?? To get that information a couple days before the election was pointless, it needed to be known months ago!

Then again, I’ve seen that some people just refuse to look at facts and will vote however they want based on their pet issues.

Conservatives don't have $$$?
We need GOPes like Rove to give it to conservative candidates because conservatives dont have any ?
So we need their $$$ but we want them gone too? To join the Dems?

That makes NO sense.

Rush has lots of $$$$, as does Hannity.
Are they the only two?

I detest them more than professing liberals. The Roves, McCains, Grahams are detestable creatures sucking the life out of one party like the parasites they are. May they garner a special place in hell for their treachery with child molesters and rapist.

Do NOT give even one penny to the RNC. When they send you prepaid return envelopes in their solicitations, return those empty to them.

Drop in the tag or boxtop from some teabags.

Just so they know where your money went.

McCain, Romney, now Christie.

Hillary will wipe the floor with him.

And if we're getting the FULL Kabuki theater effect in your scenario, after Christie Kreme loses to Hillary he will be the MOST GRACIOUS loser we've ever seem.

My Point: There's currently ONLY ONE PARTY. TWO WINGS.. but ONLY ONE BIRD.

Until that CHANGES nothing else will.

I think if the election were held next week, Cuccinelli would have won the race. The momentum was clearly in his favor and he had to thank the botched Obamacare rollout for that momentum.

Great suggestion. I’ll ask my wife to save some of her teabag “holding tags” so I can include those when I mail back (using the RNC’s “postage paid” return envelopes) the next solicitation from the RNC or one of their allies. I get solicitations from them ALL THE TIME as I’m sure many FReepers do also. I hope many others do the same with their return envelopes.

The 96 shutdown led to a lot of good policies. In fact, if Dole didn’t cave, we would have had a stunning victory. It’s in Stephenoupolus’ book that the White House was preparing to cave.

Until 1996 shutdowns were no big deal. There were six or so under Reagan and several under Carter. In 1996, the media used it to hammer Republicans and use it politically as never before. Now in the 24/7 news world it is just easy to do, and the template is created. In this environment unless there was a) unity on our side and b) a strong leader with communication skills, it is pretty much a no win for the GOP.

Jonah Goldberg makes the NRO backtracking official. The weasel was undermining Cruz during the shutdown showdown and now he feigns criticism about the establishment’ s treatment of Cuccinelli.

RE:” In fact, if Dole didn’t cave, we would have had a stunning victory,,,”

That's the way these are always portrayed after the fact.
“If only...”
Never 'the Dem POTUS caved'
The next one will be the same.

BTW :It took two Houses to cave. The Senate alone couldnt pass that CR that Clinton demanded, the GOP House had to also, And just like this one the GSs got more weeks of paid vacation via taxpayers.
