Nice little straw man you set up there . Do you expect libertarians to give
Conservatives the time of day when you insist on characterizing them with the cliche you have repeated over and over? Enjoy loosing and feeling so pure in your failure.
Do you know anything about libertarianism or this race?
That “cliche”, is their platform and the positions of the libertarian candidate we are discussing.
The positions that you don’t want conservatives to criticize or disagree with.
Voting libertarian is a protest vote only. The party will never amount to anything. Even the kook Ron Paul figured that out.
The bulk of its support comes from naive college kids who want legalized drugs, abortion on demand and a peacenik foreign policy. Once they figure out true libertarian policy calls for massive cuts in government social welfare programs, these kids almost always bail on the party.
Voting libertarian is a cop out. It's a useless protest vote of people who refuse to accept that we live within a two party system with no chance of coalition government. It's a bunch of people who think "i'm going to take my ball and go home" is a viable political strategy.
I can't argue with you about Reagan, but let's slow down a bit here.
You keep mentioning EW Jackson and Alan Keyes as examples of "fire breathing" right wingers who scare off the moderates and fence sitting Democrats.
If I'm not mistaken, neither of those men is active as a potential candidate in any political race I'm aware of, so just what bearing they have on the conversation escapes me. What purpose does your warning serve, when the two prime examples of what you're referring to, aren't even a factor in today's political scene?
Give me the names of some active, potential, or recent candidates (or elected politicians) who fit the "fire breathing" profile you're talking about. Tell me which of them is scaring off the moderates and fence sitting Democrats the GOP ought to be trying to reach.
While you're at it, why not give me the names of some active, potential, or recent candidates (or elected reps) who seem like reasonable, articulate conservatives to you.
I'm asking this, because you seem to be providing a counter argument to something I don't think I said.
EW Jackson was our just defeated Lt. Governor candidate in Virginia. He got crushed. Meanwhile, Cuccinelli kept it close and Obenshain may have won. EW Jackson was almost certainly a drag on the ticket. We nominated an unelectable Alan Keyes clone was my point. It was a stupid, pointless waste of time that only ended up hurting us.
Getting late, will have to finish this some other time.
In short though, happy warriors that seem friendly, reasonable, approachable and willing to listen tend to do best. Firebrands can win in heavily gerrymandered districts, but they tend to fail statewide and in purple (or enemy) territory. Scott Walker is a perfect example of the kind of candidate we can run and win in hostile territory. The Democrats have some similar types they run in Republican areas - liberals that use their political skills to make their leftist views sound moderate.
“IMO, its a win because we are changing mindsets. It may take another election, or two, to start electing candidates, but we are moving forward.” UNTILL AND UNLESS THE LEFT OF BOTH MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIES AS WELL AS ALL “PRO-AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT REPUBLICANS” OFFICIALLY MAKE AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS HAPPEN. Such a move would make U.S. conservatism become a profound political minority for hundreds of years, if not for always.
As a college student, I worked for the U.S. Census: much goes unreported.
Of all categories, I would expect that a connection to Islam is especially unreported.
thanks for that info.
The left have figured out that they can’t just rely on fraud and now run candidates posing as libertarians /
Time for the GOP to wake the hell up, I’d have thought after the 2008 election they would understand that rules and laws do not apply to the extreme left
You missed the point of my post.
Sarvis wasn’t “posing” as the libertarian, he was the libertarian, he was the nominee of the libertarians.
Sarvis was no Dem plant, he was simply the libertarian.
Libertarians winning elections for the left is old stuff, the libertarians despise conservatism.
Frankly I think they just stick their fingers into the wind on issues.
No, they have firm views and a firm philosophy and politics.
The libertarian agenda never changes, it is the same today as it was 40 years ago.
