Inside the outrageous world of child cage fighting: Tiny boys who are trained to attack each other in America's baby MMA arenas
It is the heat of battle between two MMA fighters hemmed inside an industrial metal cage. One kicks, punches and strangles his way to brutal victory. His opponent breaks down and cries tears for his mother.
But this is not an unusual end to another televised brawl between two fully grown brutes, this is kids's MMA, or Mixed Martial Arts, which is rapidly becoming one of the nation's fastest growing sports among children.
It is estimated that three million boys and girls, some as young as five-years-old launch themselves at each other weekly across the nation engaged in Pankration - some wearing no head protection and throwing punches boasting gloves little more than one-inch thick.
Critics call it barbaric and fear for the children's safety and the effect on their behavior.
Supporters compare it's benefits to boxing and traditional martial arts and claim that it encourages self-discipline, fair play and exercise.

I sense something very perverse at work behind the scenes.
he is called satan
Some people should never breed.
They do this among 2nd and 3rd Graders in the Inner City, and the “fathers” bet on them.
crazy
Every now and then a story makes the rounds about some ‘parents’ gathering around hooting and hollering while their son or daughter and somebody else’s kid beat each other bloody in a parking lot or backyard. There’s usually a cell phone video and it gets uploaded online and causes general disgust as the media plays it. How is this different? Bright lights and colorful shorts? “Rules”?
There was a piece by Charlie Daniels on FR this morning asking what happened to America. Good question. Be interesting to see where these children are in ten years time.
Are they running short of pit bulls and chickens???
I really don’t see the big deal, it gives kids an outlet in the cities. Honestly, what is wrong with this?
“I really dont see the big deal, it gives kids an outlet in the cities. Honestly, what is wrong with this?”
Kind of a violent outlet dontcha think? or did you forget the sarcasm tag? ...............I thought we were all supposed to be jumping on the anti bullying bandwagon.
I have no problem with this for teenagers but 7 might be too young. I studied Tae Kwon Do as a teenager and think it made me a better person. I was big anyway but I think the poise and confidence karate gave me sent a message to bullys that they might not want to confront me. Even at 7 if the kids want to do it and safety is ensured then I say go for it. We are becoming a nation of wusses and anything that goes against that tide is worthwhile in my book. It’s the same reason I gravitated to chess: everybody is NOT a winner. You win, lose, or tie and it’s entirely up to YOUR efforts.
(the Agoge system)
People have been complaining for years about the wussification of boys, now they are fighting in a sport that is safer than boxing, football, hocky and even soccer, and people are complain that it's too "violent". Can't make some people happy I guess.
Junior league football? Basketball? All sports are violent to some extreme, I’m sure most of these children are being taught discipline while doing this. You don’t get good at MMA at any age without discipline. It’s also contained.
As long as they are being taught good values, which it seems they are (exercise, sportsmanship, healthy competition, discipline, fighting skills) I really don’t see “satan” being behind this.
Yea, and it’s not these people.
This is some seriously sick sh*t.
We can’t be too far from the apocalypse.
Yeah, who cares if the little $hits get brain damage. Builds character!! Jerry!!!! Jerry!!!! Jerry!!!!
There must be limits on exposure to injury and the types of hits that can made. Safety and sportsmanship must be the priorities for these young, impressionable minds.
