....So, If I dont buy any insurance, I save $6,360. The risk is, something big happens. But if that does, then I can immediately buy insurance to cover it. The new insurance wont start the deductible process until I purchase it. Which basically means if my wife or I get really sick, buy the insurance before costs exceed something between $0 and $6,360. This is sort of our personal actuarial process. But each year, we save the money so that break even point will change. To be fair, the penalty goes up to 2% in 2015, so the savings will be $4,560 then. Given the actuarial nature of ACA, premiums are likely to go up because ACA mandates a reduction of the deductible. What this all means is the Dont buy insurance plan works fine for the next few years but maybe not forever.....

You might get away with it for a while but next year everything will be reconciled against your tax return. And then you're going to owe a huge bill to the IRS. That is no ordinary bill and the government will use all available means to collect it (unlike a straight penalty).
My point was a simple one. Many people feel they can just get Obamanationcare when they need it. One may be completely unconscious and unable to sign up for it when one needs it. It may cover pre-existing conditions but certainly not pre-existing bills. One can easily burn through one’s net worth in a few days of hospitalization, emergency care and surgery.
It’s not even clear if auto policies will continue to be able to include bodily injury coverage.
If anything it is going in the opposite direction. We will have a two tiered system in a very short period of time. You already see this happening with concierge medicine growing as rapidly as it is. These are doctors who don't take insurance. Some will have assistants help you with submitting bills for reimbursement, but most don't do that. You pay the doctor. If the insurance company reimburses it is you they pay.
The beauty of concierge medicine is no one stands between the doctor and patient. If the doctor thinks tests are needed no one says no. The down side is you pay up front and it can be expensive. However, it pretty easy to see that you get what you pay for. The best doctors will gravitate to this type of practice.
If you can't pay then you go to the other tier. The govt system with long lines, delays and govt making the decisions on what can and can not be done. I really don't care about the liberals who get caught in this system. They voted for it. The problem is all my fellow conservatives who didn't want this that get caught in it. Unfortunately, there isn't much I can do to help them other than financially support Tea Party candidates.
A national healthcare hospital would.
I would bet less then 10% of the patients I see in. The ER on any given day have a true emergency.
Digging in more on the enrollment period issue, that is a critical flaw in my strategy. I need to dig more on a solution there.

Well now, that’s a revolting thought. Talk about opening up a can of worms. I know there are some things that have changed that I never thought were possible in my lifetime but I really can’t see this happening. You just have too many different types of liability insurance out there that cover injury to others. Attorneys just wouldn’t allow DC to get in their toy box and mess with their retirement funds.
OMG - if you're right - and it seems you might be - you have beat the system - while protecting yourself and your family... Probably a few things to still work out, but it's lookin' good. I'm impressed.
If you give a man-child communist the opportunity to fkuc up a capitalist country, nothing is beyond question.
I would love to puff up my chest and take credit, but I would be lying. I forgot who, but a freeper suggested looking into Christian Healthcare co-ops. I found Medi-Share, that I applied with, Samaritan Ministries, and Christian Healthcare Ministries. I know the Roman Catholic Church is establishing a co-op and I believe there are other co-ops out there.
When I realized my monthly premium would be half what I'm paying now I started looking into a concierge doctor.
In a perverse way obamacare did me a favor. It wasn't until my existing coverage was cancelled and I found a similar plan would be double my present premium that I started looking into this. I don't want to be in the govt system and this is how I avoided it.
Another option to explore is using the tax code to get your AGI down to a level that is heavily subsidized on the exchanges. Also familiarize yourself with the bankruptcy laws for your jurisdiction if you decide not to buy health insurance and something bad were to happen.
Now what?
if you have very deep pockets, you pay up. If you're like most of the rest of us poor schmucks, when discharged from the hospital, you go straight to a good bankruptcy attorney.
Remember, too: The article's author assumes that one must pay the penalty, and factors that into his calculations. In truth, all that is necessary to avoid the penalty is to decrease withholding or estimated tax payments to insure that there will be no refund. The IRS can only collect the penalty from refunds. They cannot garnish your wages, place a lien on your property or take your savings or banking accounts, or for that matter file criminal charges. They can roll the penalty over to the next tax year, and add interest, but under the current law cannot do anything but collect from refunds due.
If the GOP had any sense (sigh ... I know, I know) it would be blanketing the airwaves with ads on programs aimed at younger Americans. These should convey a simple, truthful message: consider what the government may and may not do if you incur a penalty, and what you can do to avoid paying it.
Is going without health insurance risky? Of course it is. One out of every 500 or 1000 will suffer some major illness or injury and, while they will be treated even if they cannot get enrolled in time, they will spend a lot of time in the months and years to follow dealing with lawyers and collection agents, and clawing their way back from bankruptcy. But the vast majority will be far better off, financially, if they don't purchase insurance. And if enough of them don't, this ugly, unconstitutional monstrosity collapses.
And if they don't have health insurance, they might just decide to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

My original comment stays: I'm impressed... You might want to write this up as a stand-alone thread.
Christian insurance co-ops? Man I hope that goes viral——sure would throw a monkey wrench into snot-nose Ohoho’s devious plans.
How long before all those people innocently entering personal info in healthgcare.gov are registered to vote as Democrats without their knowledge or consent?
Dems vote the people who don't show up to vote. They need raw numbers of people - they don't care if the real people ever vote. If they've got the names, they'll take it from there...
All we need to do to catch them is station a few webcams outside of important dem swing precincts houses... we count the number of people who go in to vote then compare it to the number they say 'voted'... This type of fraud use to be done in black communities...
