Fiscally liberal incumbent Lindsey Graham isnt trying to win his 2014 Republican primary election in South Carolina. Far from it.
What is he trying to do? Fundamentally redefine the way GOP primary races are run in the Palmetto State and every state which permits open primary elections (or primaries in which non-registered Republicans can vote).
Graham, who has a $7 million war chest at his disposal, has reportedly hired an out-of-state firm to run what one national consultant called the most sophisticated voter identification and turnout platform ever implemented at the state level.
According to a source familiar with the project, Grahams team is assembling an army of precinct captains all across the state operatives who will organize their neighborhoods using voter profile data from a custom database.
Their mission? To identify and turn out Democrats and left-leaning independents who dont typically vote in GOP primaries as well as centrists and left-leaning Republicans who do.
They have over 1,000 precinct captains already lined up, a source familiar with Grahams effort tells FITS. More are coming online every day. They are building a machine.
Grahams campaign did not respond to our request for comment on the operation. Grahams consultant, Richard Quinn, also did not respond to our request for comment.
One national operative said Grahams massive grassroots mobilization effort was akin to a candidate creating a new party although our SCGOP sources were quick to dispute this characterization, choosing instead to refer to the operation as a unique primary focused infrastructure.
Whatever you want to call it its the reason Graham hasnt done what he usually does prior to a primary election, which is tack to the right of the ideological spectrum. Instead Graham has pressed the accelerator down and made a beeline toward the left.
Hes basically saying Screw the SCGOP, Im going to build my own constituency, our national source explained.
Grahams support among GOP primary voters has weakened considerably in recent months with polls showing favorable conditions for an upset. That isnt surprising considering Graham has backed tax hikes, domestic spying, war with Syria and most recently budgets that fully fund Obamacare.
Three Republicans have announced their candidacies against Graham in the 2014 primary S.C. Sen. Lee Bright (R-Spartanburg), Charleston businesswoman Nancy Mace and Upstate social conservative businessman Richard Cash. Combined, the three candidates only have about $500,000 in their campaign war chests.
Lady Linda ping.

These are the same consultants who ran the brilliant McCain and Romney campaigns. Things are looking up with Graham’s approval rating so low that the propaganda press refuses to report the numbers. My guess is that he’s at 37% approval and falling fast. The South Carolina Tea Party folks are performing brilliantly with a ground game that is keeping the pressure on this RINO weasel by magnifying every error that Graham makes.
It's not career-ladderism, it's get-Cornyn-outism. Someone's got to do it. Louie would suit me fine. I'm sure Texas has many others who could do the job better than Cornyn but whoever it's going to be needs to saddle up soon.
When the TEA Party first started there were lots of Democrats involved. I hope there still are, Taxed Enough Already applies to them as well as us.
Man, are you ever living in the past. Today there’s not a single democrat in Congress who is not an islamist, islamist facilitator or outright communist, and there are more than few so-called Republicans in their ranks as well.
I’d wake up.
Thanks for the “cowboy” moniker. I’m flattered.
15% of our TP group are FORMER democrats... You know, the one’s you can sit down with and have a conversation without them slobbering at the mouth and calling you names... We actually have A LOT in common. We don’t always agree how to get there, but our goals are the same... SAVE THE REPUBLIC!
I would love to see Cornyn gone...and like Graham, Burr, Chambliss, etc...these very red states who elect moderate squishes to the Senate are where we get killed.
SC should send two DeMint types....Texas two Cruz types....etc. These red state RINOs are far more devastating than the Scott Browns of the world.....who really are the best we can get from Mass....
Voters maybe.
The only "democrat" TEA-activists or candidates would be RAT plants, or decoys.
Do we do that any more?
Read much? He wasn’t talking about Congress... The DEMOS in Congress are all from the far left... Moderates have been purged or defeated...
MOST TP groups consist of conservatives who are working to make things better. He||, we hardly talk about party affiliation....
GA’s Senators are TRUELY embarrassing... Chambliss won back in the day by flogging Max Cleland (and rightly so) with his voting record of lock-step voting with the NE Liberals. He was good for a while... Johnny Isakson has ALWAYS been a squish who you could NEVER depend on as a solid conservative vote...
GA doesn’t have a state-wide office with a Democrat... We’ll make sure that the next Senator is Cruz-like...
I agree. That's why I've focussed on Senate RINOs in particular. They are the worst of the worst when you figure the opportunity costs, comparing the damage they do to what could be done with more Lees and Cruzes in their place.
Yes, Georgia is a problem......Cain would have been better than Isakson....and I remember Rush making fun of Saxby on air a few years ago, and Saxby was too clueless to even know it was going on. It was something related to energy where Saxby had bought into some man made global warming mess....
Little back story: I got into a short debate with Haley Barbour at the NC GOP convention right after his speech....where he was bitching about tea party candidates losing Delaware (he is STILL OBSESSED WITH Christine O) and so on. He said stuff like “Brown is the best we can do from Mass, Snow and Collins are the best we can do from Maine, Castle is the best we can do from Delaware...etc”
Okay, let’s assume he has a partial point...which on Brown he surely does....but he couldn’t answer this the other side....which is that we MUST do better than Chambliss, Cornyn, Graham, McCain, Burr, Isakson et al from red states. He fumbled and mumbled on that one.....
I had higher hopes for Haley at one point but now I suspect he’s really Karl Rove. Ever see them together?
lmao... Now that’s funny... I don’t care who you are...
Don't you mean "ever see them apart?" And the answer would be NO. They're a team now. Have been since before the 2012 Prez convention. Haley and Rove commiscerated on the strategy for Crossroads advertising. They now generally are a speech team for these state conventions, etc.
Uber RINO Lindsey Ping
"Republican by day, Democrat by night."
Want on or off this ping list?
Just FReepmail me
Are the other two challengers genuine conservative candidates? I only ask because, here in Massachusetts, I suspect that on the rare occasions a real conservative announces, the MA GOP recruits a liberal to run in the primary and perhaps a self-styled "conservative" with no political record to split the conservative vote. I don't know whether the SC GOP is quite that devious!
