Enrollments in health care plans through Washington state's new health care exchange continue to increase, but it turns out a majority of the enrollees so far won't be paying for their plans.
"The Medicaid newly eligible population accounts for a little more than half of the 25,000 that we've seen," Michael Marchand, with the new Washington Health Care Exchange, tells KIRO Radio's Dave Ross.
A Medicaid expansion under Obamacare raised the income threshold for those eligible.
"So that's the new population that's part of the expansion that the state undertook," says Marchand. "It's quite possible that those people may have never had health insurance in the past and have been able to go to Washington Health Plan Finder and determine that their eligibility actually qualifies them for free insurance."
In addition to the 25,000 enrolled, an additional 37,000 residents have completed online applications that are awaiting payment that is due in December.
The state estimates about 1 million Washington state residents do not have health insurance, or about one in seven people.
Marchand says they've found the bulk of those uninsured will likely get fully-subsidized health care or assistance of some kind.
"We've figured out that probably more than 90 percent of those who are of the 1 million who are currently uninsured, they're going to receive financial help in one way or another, whether it's free or through tax credits."
Washington residents have six months to buy health insurance through the new exchange during the first enrollment period ending in March.
Now go and find a health care facility that will accept it. I’ve heard that lots of doctors in my area will not accept ObamaCare no matter what form it’s in.
America...what a country...”free” healthcare for all!
They will probably get subsidized “medical pot” too.
One thing not in short supply in the NW is people with their hands out.
I suspect that “problem” will be “fixed” with an executive order to two from Caliph Baraq....
We are paying their premiums and they will be competing to see our doctors.
Guess who gets the first appointments, and who does get one because the doctors calendar is full?
What qualifies them for the “free” insurance? Do they just have to be breathing or do they need to verify that they can produce feces as well?
Of course the sample is going to self-select.
Those whose premiums are dramatically increased are not going to sign up whilst those who get it for free WILL sign up.
This is why the left has to implement these programs on EVERYBODY, because only the free loaders will participate otherwise.
I’ve also heard from the folks back home that some doctors will quit or retire rather than be forced to accept that insurance.
May well be.
Insurance is so complex these days the number of small doctor practices is plunging.
Most choose to be affiliated with a massive bureaucracy to deal with the massive govt bureaucracy.

Seriously, I want to know if they get a free platinum plan or a free bronze plan????
Those of us who’ll pay more ought to hold the Kenyan Klown to his promise that Obamacare will save us money and refuse to buy anything more expensive than our current plan.
Is there a way for them to tell the difference since the insurance is still offered through the same companies non-subsidized people get it from?
Art Laffer says its starting in an unrecoverable debt spiral.
Not sure. Most likely some sort of credit card thing would be used and right off the admitting nurse or office staff would know it’s that ObamaCare stuff and refuse it. It’s dealing with the paperwork then arguing the fee and having it turned down where the provider has to resubmit over and over to get reimbursed. The government will set the fee schedule; then too, how long to get reimbursed.
“Fully subsidized” means paid for by the government and/or through increases in the premiums of people who are paying. So Obama was lying about two things: (1) our premiums will not rise; and (2) this will lower health care spending.
Doctors will simply go cash only. You pay them, they give you a copy of what is done and you submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Then, you will learn what they use to go through to get paid.
Wow, paying my health insurance or getting a new crack pipe for Christmas decisions ... decisions.
