WASHINGTON Congressional Republicans conceded defeat on Wednesday in their bitter budget fight with President Obama over the new health care law as the House and Senate approved last-minute legislation ending a disruptive 16-day government shutdown and extending federal borrowing power to avert a financial default with potentially worldwide economic repercussions.
With the Treasury Department warning that it could run out of money to pay national obligations within a day, the Senate voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday evening, 81 to 18, to approve a proposal hammered out by the chambers Republican and Democratic leaders after the House on Tuesday was unable to move forward with any resolution. The House followed suit a few hours later, voting 285 to 144 to approve the Senate plan, which would fund the government through Jan. 15 and raise the debt limit through Feb. 7.

The problem cannot be solved alone with the hope of electing virtuous politicians. Bush had a Republican congress for a couple years and blew the debt sky high.
Our Framers didn't rely on the election of righteous and moral men; neither should we.
Only a return to federalism can possibly save what very little remains of republican freedom.
Same here. I shudder to think what it will take for me to say "eff it" and leave. Probably right after I dispatch a few hundred looters roving the countryside.
Yet we go on blaming the compromisers in Congress
At first glance it appears that the majority of the Republican House caucus defied their leadership and voted against the sellout. One would think, therefore, that there would be a full scale revolt against the entire GOP leadership to punish them for their betrayal. But that’s not how Washington works. This was all a big charade. The House leaders figured out how many votes they needed to pass the bill and determined which members were best able to survive a “yes” vote. If they had needed another 30 sellout votes, they would have got another 30 sellout votes. A lot of those in the GOP majority were simply permitted to vote No to give them political cover for next year’s election cycle. There are probably only 50 true conservatives in the entire House and fewer than 10 in the entire Senate. The political balance situation is much worse than the average American imagines.
We must stop the IDIOCRACY!
Me too...guess I better buy a couple of pairs of new “walking shoes”!
BUT, but, we need to take-back the GOP from the INSIDE.
As if, in the 40+yrs it’d take to even come close, the Republic would be worth ‘saving’
Where do I sign my name under the 2nd Declaration of Independence?
Hmmm. What happens then? Deja Vu again?
I fear you are correct. I hope we can convince people we need the “numbers” to stop this tradition.
We will need to examine the voting records of the members who voted NO before Keeping them. I hope each district does this, wish I could be more positive.
What Jenkins is again saying, "I'm not voting what is best for the citizens in my community but what they tell me they want and it's not about 'doing the right thing,' it's about getting reelected!"
That crap ain't gonna work any longer in Kansas.
Word to Lynn Jenkins, "Lynn, you're not in Kansas any more, so head on outta here!"
It has nothing to do with labels, it has to do with electing the right individuals. Running a Tea Party candidate in a GOP primary and winning makes defeating the Democrat much easier than if you ran as a third party in a 3-way race against both of them. At least in states where there is no run-off election and the “winner” gets to win with less than 50% of the vote, as Franken did. Being obsessed with what party label someone uses is stupid. Strategizing to get the right people elected is what’s important, not their label.
If Obama had run as a third party Socialist or Green Party, he would have lost handily. That’s not the way to go.
Was there any doubt the way this was gonna end?
No doubt at all.
Ya tell the morons both these party's are all riding in the same limo, and ya get that familier look..
yep, that’s them
Of course not.
While some were cheering on and worshipping their latest political celebrities, some were telling them what was going to happen.
>>>They'll shove this down your throats and then legalize tens of millions of foreign illegal criminals<<<
Not after last Saturday. The GOP got the message loud and clear. They will no longer be able to stop any of this, even if they wanted to.
