The Air Force on Friday fired the general in charge of all land-based nuclear missiles, the second time in a week that a senior commander of the countrys nuclear arsenal has been let go for allegations of personal misconduct.
Maj. Gen. Michael Carey, commander of the 20th Air Force, was removed from his job due to a loss of trust and confidence in his leadership and judgment, said Brig. Gen. Les Kodlick, an Air Force spokesman. Air Force officials said Carey has been under investigation since this summer for allegations of personal misbehavior but would not specify what prompted his firing.
Pressed by reporters at a Pentagon news conference, Kodlick said the case did not involve drugs, sexual misconduct, gambling or any form of criminal activity, but he declined to comment when asked if alcohol played a role. He said he could not give further details because the investigation was still underway.
We wanted to make it very clear it wasnt operations-related, Kodlick said.
Careys firing comes two days after the Navy announced it had fired a three-star admiral from his post as deputy commander of the U.S. Strategic Command, which oversees all nuclear-armed missiles, bombers and submarines.
In that case, Vice Adm. Tim Giardina remains under investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service after a casino in Iowa allegedly caught him using $1,500 in counterfeit gambling chips. The casino is near the Strategic Command headquarters in Omaha.

$1500 of counterfeit chips is an odd charge.

I thought the same thing. Lot of trumped up charges against military brass. Lot like Stalin Russia
“Well, after Obama puts some Rainbow Officers in charge, there will be no more land-based nuclear arsenal”.
Seriously; do you think any would be launched now ?
We know what they’re really doing, and we know that it’s not the politicians doing it. We know what becomes far more likely each year—not less likely than during the ‘60s. But we don’t want to scare the chickens. Fond memories return of those cool sounding sirens at a particular time each month near a large base. The teachers said, “Children, get under your desks. Get on your knees, and put your heads down. Hands behind your heads like this.” [Sigh. Childhood was fun sometimes. I loved the sound of those sirens.]
;-)
I could only find the several nixed after Libya, and at least one more. I think there has been more, but am not sure ——— http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/2995277/posts
On the more serious side, it seems that some Democrats tend to cut defense funding and agree with defense actions rather late. That might contribute to more intense conflicts. The Obama Administration, being even more political and reluctant than some of the Democrat administrations of the past, could expose us to a really built-up mess.
Nothing would be accomplished by launching them. It is only the 'having' that is important. Not 'having' is going to suck.
Gen. Carter Ham, on October 18, 2012
Adm. Charles Gaouette, on October 27, 2012
Gen. David Petraeus, on November 9, 2012
Gen. John Allen, on November 13, 2012
Cmdr of CENTCOM James Mattis March, 2013

I feel like this is more, but I am not sure.
I was wondering the same thing.
Yeh, IIRC some every year retired or forced retirement. Don’t forget McCrystal due to his rolling Stones interview.
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/05/17-air-force-officers-have-nuke-launch-keys-revoked/
7 generals + 4 recent (2 nuke+2 marine) & 17 nuke launch control officers
11 generals and 17 officers total=28 total
In light of Keel's death, Picard tells Riker about the suspicions Keel voiced. During their conversation, Data enters and tells them what he has found: during the past six months there has been a great deal of "uncustomary reshuffling of personnel usually in the command areas," and the new officers have had a great deal of contact with the highest levels of command. Data hypothesizes that the reorganizations are an attempt by a hostile force or individual to control important sectors of Federation territory. Faced with this information, the Enterprise returns to Earth.
Yeah, pretty much sounds like what is going on in our current administration.
Something wicked this way comes..
Obama is setting up a strike on the mainland US. There will be no counter strike.
Remember your history. The Bolsheviks had to kill the Czar and his family to let everyone know there is no going back.
The Russians just ran a test of their Topol missile system.
Obama has been more effective in quietly purging the military of its senior officers than was Stalin.
Hmmmm! I think we’re on to something, Watson.
are you saying that Obama is setting up a strike here in the states to enslave us?
Petraeus retired from the military in 2011. His name should not be on you list.
Only in some whacky Hollyweird movie. In the real word, no.
THANK you so much. I had trouble finding a total.
I also heard they got rid of the Navy’s top person in charge of our submarine (SSBN) force...
Couple that with the history of relieving C.O.’s of AFRICOM (General Hamm) and a Battle Group C.O. (Admiral Gyotte), the trend of this Liar-in-Chief is rather disturbing...
Demoralizing at the very least...
