WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker John Boehner planned to ask fractious Republican lawmakers on Thursday to support a six-week extension of the government's ability to borrow money, even as Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew warned Congress of "irrevocable damage" that an unprecedented federal default would risk.
Boehner, R-0hio, was expected to broach the plan at a private morning meeting of GOP House legislators, just hours before he and other Republican leaders were traveling to the White House to discuss their budget battle with President Barack Obama.

The media controls everything anyway . we live in the matrix, a false reality created by the media, where Trayvon is a the top news story that everyone is talking about for a month.
why give the media what they want?
don't raise the debt limit. then when nothing happens then the media will again be shown to have cried wolf. why don't people see the many times the media lied: fiscal cliff( help the Republicans are driving the country over the cliff!), sequester, government shut down apocalypse, global warming world catastrophe (for 30 years the media pushed this) nothing happened in any of these cases and yet people still believe the media.

"yet people still believe the media"
You made my point right there.
There is no reason to give the media more weapons to use to keep what little bits of truth that are shining through the cracks in their lies.
Just like the 8 CR's the house has sent the Congress only to be rejected outright by Reid, a debt limit increase passed by the house and sent to Congress would force Obama & Co. to block it or make it a non-point in the battle conservatives are currently winning.

Robert Costa from the National Review is tweeting about the Repub meeting going on now: https://twitter.com/robertcostaNRO Robert Costa@robertcostaNRO 5m The hard thing for leadership, esp during open mic now, is that a large # of Rs are simply unhappy w/ anything that's not a BIG WIN Robert Costa@robertcostaNRO 7m In essence, Boehner allies email/text, if Boehner can't get this now, Right's hopes will shrivel, too, b/c he won't have bargaining power Robert Costa@robertcostaNRO 9m It's not so much about ideology inside the rm right now, but about "team." Who's a team player, who's not, and who doesn't care. Robert Costa@robertcostaNRO 10m This is a fork in road for House GOP: if they reject Boehner's plan now, he'll likely be forced to seek Dem votes in order to get DL ext Robert Costa@robertcostaNRO 13m Boehner trying to escape default. Ending govt shutdown is, 4 now, a secondary concern. He's not sure if he has votes for fmr, let alone a CR

Not caving. Picking battles.
Debt ceiling: bad battle, distraction and Obama could invoke 14th Amendment.
Shutdown/Obamacare: good battle, right place to dig in and make a stand.

“Good move on the GOPs part. Makes them look flexible and willing to horsetrade...”
I agree, we must look good in public perception if we are going to be able to get concessions from Mr. Obama. Right now, the Speaker is looking more “presidential” than the president.

“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”
“Lucy, do you promise not to snatch the football away this time?”
All comments that apply to the Republican party and especially that “sissy” Boehner.
Most of us knew from the start that the whole thing was a major “smoke and mirrors” play put on for the public benefit of those who needed some hope that, just maybe...this time...the Republicans would actually represent the views of those who put them into office or if nothing else, to protect our rights under the Constitution.
The Republican party cannot be fixed for it IS THE DEMOCRAT PARTY TWIN.
Cruz, Paul and a very few others are the only patriots sitting in Washington.
