Are the Interstate Highways next?
Lowcountry

Based on the thuggish Federal closings of open air monuments and National Parks, is it feasible the feds could TRY shut down the Interstate Highway system?

Return the land to the states.

Exactly. Plus lands seized by eminent domain to their original owners.

I know. This is Tyranny. People have no idea what is to come. If this is accepted now it is going to embolden the feds big time.

I believe that “we the people” own all of these federal lands - not “the government”. How can shutting down the bureaucracies shut down an unmanned asset owned by the people?

No. Although partial funding for the IHS was provided by the feds, the states are responsible for law enforcement. Ever see an FBI agent write a ticket?

That's right. And the Feds have *never* been known to horn in on states' jurisdictions, right?

I would not be surprised.

Last week I was thinking Team Petulant would at least try to shut down the Interstate highway overpasses and bridges.

As birth certificates are issued by the government, until the evil Republicans relent and end the government shutdown, there will be no birthday celebrations. That is all.

It IS tyranny. Ideally we would have a media that would question and investigate, but well.. yeah.

Wonder how the hell much added tax dollars are being squandered to ‘enforce’ the gov’t shutdown? Coupled with the hypocrisy of what “essential” items are selectively being left open.

You folks have it all backwards. As his royal hinda$$ keeps turning the screws to try to make this shutdown "painful" more of the idiots who elected him are understanding their mistake.

I hope he shuts down everything. The faster he does it the sooner congress will achieve a veto proof majority and "affordable" health care will be gone. Hopefully he will be gone, too. There is no way he is stupid enough to take it that far, but I'm hoping he is arrogant enough; I think we have a shot there.

...President ... announced today that he’s sending Nancy Pelosi out to the Head Start programs.

It's all tied together. If Fannie May and Freddie Mac were still viable we would be able to get a house to drop on her.

Sounds like you boaters in the Keys are trapped and need to start a flotilla to Cuba to ask for political asylum - if you can outrun the US Coast Guard

“At least they didn’t decide the federal government owns the Interstate Highway System, and shut it down. Yet . . . “

(Bugle blowing calvary charge)

The TSA is the federal agency assigned duties to make our federal highways safe. They can cruise around in their federal police cars.

Lousy idea but thank Congress for our Transportation Safety Administration.

Federal gasoline taxes pay a portion also. Plus some fancing funding of the (federal) Highway Trust Fund so as to keep it out of the federal deficiet.

The feds have been closing down other highways, roads on state and local levels associated with national park sites ... so I would not put this pass them to at least try.

I remember reading the other day that Gov. Brewer of AZ agreed to keep the Grand canyon open as it is state land however since it is a national park the Parks Administration said no-go. This plus other things doesn’t give me a lot of hope that the current Administration wouldn’t try it to ‘make it hurt’.

Nothing those evil people would do can surprise me. I live not to far from the I-35 super highway running through the center of Texas. Close it, I’d love the sound of silence.

I live a couple of blocks from I-35 South, this town would probably die without it.
