WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A woman jogging in a park while pushing her 8-month-old son in a stroller Friday morning turned the tables on a would-be attacker, hitting him over the head with a tire pump and sending him packing, she said.
Mary Jane Jarman, 33, a stay-at-home mom from Washington Heights, was jogging home on the Hudson River Greenway near the Henry Hudson Parkway and 190th Street at 9:30 a.m. Friday after dropping her daughter off at school when a man jumped out from a behind a wall holding a broken glass bottle, she said.
"Come here, come here," the man told Jarman, who said she began to run for her life, making it about 100 yards down the path before he grabbed her in a bear hug and took her down to the ground, knocking over the stroller in the process.
"I started screaming, trying to attract attention. He came at me," said Jarman, who spoke to DNAinfo New York after speaking to detectives at the 34th Precinct stationhouse.
Jarman said she managed to struggle free and reached for a hand-held bike pump she had in the stroller, bashing the attacker over the head two or three times, until he began to bleed.

She was arrested because she had high capacity magazine (may have been Playgirl) in the stroller with the assault pump.

I am glad she’s okay but a true happy ending would be needing to get a casket for the attacker.

Stupid woman, taking a baby in a stroller to a place known to be dangerous.
Of course she never took the trouble to find out what sort of place it was.
She’s only lucky her attacker had no accomplices.
She hurt the attacker - that was over punishment for merely trying to hurt/kill her and the baby. She should have called 911 at the beginning so the call would go through, and explained to the attacker she had called 911 and in an hour or less, a cop would be there. The robber would have waited for the cop and no one would have gotten hurt.
Due to her hurting the poor attacker, who most likely has had a bad life, bike pumps will no longer be sold. We have to prevent the underprivileged from getting hurt when they attack a person who has more than they do. More executive orders will be written to remove more money from those who have it so it can be given to those with less.

From leaving his glasses and the shattered bike pump on the scene, he probably left a lot of DNA as well. Fiends of this sort are often “frequent flyers”, so he might already be in the system and an easy pick up.
If he shows up at a hospital or clinic with head injuries, he is pegged, so hopefully he will try to tough it out and get a lethal infection.
It’s still a pity that she wasn’t able to put eight .22 slugs into his abdomen, in a nice shot grouping.
Yeah ok....another “blame the victim” idiot! The only shame in this is that she’s not allowed to own & carry the proper tool to handle this job! There should not be any areas that we shouldn’t be able to go. All areas should be dangerous workplaces for criminals!
