House Republicans survived a key test vote Thursday on their plan to keep the government running while trying to halt the health care law, defying a veto threat from President Obama and inching closer to a shutdown showdown with Senate Democrats. Top Republicans say their partys strategy is unlikely to succeed and not worth shutting down the government, but some rank-and-file lawmakers said they have to draw a line now and use the leverage of the spending bill to end the presidents signature achievement.

Oooooh... Ooga booga. What is he, the Great and Mighty Oz?
Hey Zero, shove it. And that goes for the ass you rode in on.
Who will Obama throw under the bus for not having the federal exchanges ready by October 1st? He can’t blame it on the sequester.
And all of those ObamaCare “navigators” will still get paid, even though the exchanges don’t work!
Hope so.
That's what the shutdown is for.
It will divide the Democrat party. Zero is willing to take the country down with him, but the rank and file won't put up with it.
All we have to do is ride herd on the RINOs. No easy task. But they are easily cowed. And we've already demonstrated that we can make progress with them. No one thought this initial vote was even possible.
It’s a good thing. A few weeks ago I didn’t think Boner was going to allow it. I’d say he thinks he’s safe from losing his place on the presidential golf team because he knows/believes the Senate will peel the healthcare elements out of the budget and send it back to the House. He’s counting on Cruz not to be able to rally enough votes. He’s probably right, but we shall see soon enough. If nothing else, it will be another chance to get a good look at Ted Cruz, and to affirmitavely identify all the Rino senators who need primarying. Will Cruz lead a filibuster? I’m thinking he will.
Portman of OH still hasn't pledged, for example. The phone numbers are listed there.
Thanks for the contact info for the NoSpineO's!
Funny thing is that Pelosi and Reid warned the Kenyan many moons ago that he better have the federal exchanges working by the Oct 1st start date or it’s going to be a disaster for them.
Doesn't matter this time, because no working person wants this. And we don't have the gimme crowd, anyway.
Thanks butter, I didn’t think anyone remembered anymore! Kidding of course but it’s so interesting how far the goal posts have moved in 5 years. Can you imagine?: Two complete terms without ever passing a budget!
I think we’ll see it and the media will never say a word. Such weak and ineffectual leader on display.
A government shutdown is only a little over 4 hours away! I don’t know how we will be able to take care of ourselves without the government drones going to work and telling me what lightbulbs to use and how my toilet flushes.
We experience a 2 day government shutdown every weekend and 90% of America celebrates and it is their favorite time of the week!
“When we take the senate next year, whats to stop us then?”
A veto proof majority until Jan. 2017
Boner only did it because he knows the Obamacare Federal Exchanges won’t be working for the Oct 1 enrollment launch date. And it could still be weeks or months until they’re working.
He will say, why should we fund ObamaCare when you can’t even get the exchanges running on time?
Leni
Lots of things continue to be funded for months after the shutdown, like SS payments, military salaries, Medicare, etc. So they're is no need for hysteria.
Saw a poll yesterday on Fox that said, get this, 51% SUPPORT a gov't shutdown, with 17% opposed. No kidding!
This explains Boehner's about-face.
Keep in mind that by some bizarre logic only the voices that must be in Boehner's head can understand, he supported Obama right away when helping AlQuaida in Syria was the issue. Boehner was left out there with no cover when Putin saved the US from that disaster. Besides that, Obama's team was insulting Boehner for not keeping the constitutional conservatives (not their term) in line just yesterday. (you can't make this stuff up)
Maybe Boehner finally got the message. Obama doesn't give a damn about people he uses to get his way.
Which Republican voted against the budget plan?: Rep. Scott Rigell (Va.)
“Give up. Roll over. Accept your fate, serfs.”
I was going to respond similarly with:
We should never try to land on Normandy, it is way to fortified. Besides, if we do successfully land on Normandy, then there is no way to defeat Hitler in France! He is much to ensconced and even the French population realized that he can’t be beat. Besides, if we did somehow happen to beat him in France, then surely there is no way to defeat him in his homeland!
We should just stay in England rather than take such risks that are garunteed to fail!
