ISTANBULTurkey said one of its warplanes Monday shot down a Syrian helicopter that had violated Turkish airspace, underlining the regional combustibility of Syria's conflict despite a week of frenzied international diplomacy.
The Turkish military said that the Mi-17 attack helicopter strayed into Turkish territory and was warned repeatedly before Turkish warplanes scrambled and shot it down.
The confrontation marks the first time Turkey, a North Atlantic Treaty Organization member, has shot down a Syrian helicopter, although Ankara has been scrambling jets to deter Syrian air power flying close to the frontier for more than a year.

There’s always little catalysts that start major wars..

Is Turkey going to attempt to invoke Article V on this? If they do, we are obligated by treaty to attack Syria.

Looks like it’s time for Obama to go golfing again. Wouldn’t want to have to deal with any of these pesky situations.

Is Turkey going to attempt to invoke Article V on this? They tried doing that before when they actually were attacked and had one of their own planes shot down off the coast of Syria. Never went any where.

That’s what I call a Turkey shoot.

Whenever I hear of a MI-17 getting shoot down I always have a picture of Rambo with an explosive tipped arrow leaving his compound bow.

No way we are obligated. The Turks started the shooting, and were not attacked. A single lost helicopter crossing a border is simply -not- an invasion requiring all of NATO to invade Syria.
Especially with the helo showing no hostile actions.

Attacked? Their Phantom recon aircraft deliberately flew into Syrian airspace. That’s like walking into someone else’s house on purpose, to spy on them. And then claiming you were the victim when they punch you.

Unless the Syrian pilots were busy fighting against the Obama fed and supplied Al Qeida troops.

The Turks have their own special way of doing things unlike any other country in the region. Personally, I like and respect the way they do business. It's not perfect but it works for them and, at the same time, we have a history of fairly good relations with them ... until the Obango era began at least. They do not respect Obango and it shows.
