PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Three suburban Boston high school soccer players used a broomstick to rape one freshman boy and try to rape two others last week at a sports team-building retreat in western Massachusetts, a prosecutor said Tuesday. One was held pending a hearing to determine whether he is a danger to the public.
That suspect, Galileo Mondol, 17, and two 16-year-old boys attacked the freshman and attempted to rape the others Aug. 25 in a cabin at Camp Lenox in Otis, in the Berkshire Mountains, a prosecutor said in court Tuesday. Mondol was not involved at first but joined in, Berkshire Assistant District Attorney Rachel Eramo said.

The senior players were hazing the freshmen players. I don’t approve, but in today’s witch hunt atmosphere, hazing becomes “rape”, “rape of a child”, etc.
I’m sure nothing of the hazing had any real sexual intent.
And again, while I don’t approve, it is wrong to charge
people with the crime of rape, give them $100,000 bail,
for what was a (dare I say)unfortunately all too common form of hazing.
The school should have been notified, the coach should have taken action, along with the parents; and that should have been the end of it.
Forcible insertion of a broomstick may be a tad more serious than you seem to think. The kid’s not normal.
I played fairly high level team athletics all through childhood, through high school and into college, and forced sodomy was never part of it.

The problem with this story is that it was reported. This happens WAY more often than you would think, and broomsticks seem to be the culprit.
My best friend in college was sodomized by a baseball bat during a hazing ritual in high school and later expelled for reporting it. He was stupid enough to not name names, so he was expelled for taking part in a "hazing ritual" despite being the victim.
I don't understand how this breeds fraternity in any way, but sodomizing other boys with implements is hardly brotherly.

In my world, if an adult did the same to anyone, they'd be in prison for decades.

Seems to me only someone who considers a certain oriface a sexual one, would consider its penetration a rape.
I to played sports at high school and into college. The only hazing we had was making the freshman step up and show their wars on the field. I did not have any desire to “hang out” with them much less haze them. I never got hazed for anything either and neither had my two older boys who played high school and college sports. I don’t know where this comes from.
I consider it a reason for me to shoot you between the eyes and not be charged with murder.
