Obama rolls the dice on Syria by asking Congress’s approval
Washington Post ^ | September 3, 2013 | by Ruth Marcus

Barack Obama is betting his presidency on the hope of cooperation from an institution that he disdains and has proved incapable of taming. His roll-the-dice gamble for congressional go-ahead in Syria may well succeed. Still, the risk is enormous for Obama’s fraying credibility, and the implications are significant not only for the power of this president but for his successors.

Obama’s decision to seek congressional approval was sudden, verging on erratic. He was certainly correct when he said Saturday that “our democracy is stronger when the president and the people’s representatives stand together.”

But that raises an uncomfortable question: Why didn’t the president plan to seek authorization from the start? How can this request to Congress be reconciled with Obama’s willingness to act unilaterally in Libya?

Naw, the 1%’ers just told him to make it look like there’s “wide support” for a new war.

It’s worked before.

In the meantime, the Republican congress gets a share of the bribes...sorry...campaign contributions for next year.

I would have LOVED to be there when the NSA called Obama, telling him that Putin had ordered his ships in the MED to prepare for a “Severe Confrontation”.

Ya gotta ask, what the heck is 0bambi thinking?

Because there is no logic here, unless you assume he’s trying to get conressional approval for pricking Assad for Al Qaeda.

Which is frankly stupid.

How is it a roll of the dice? Congress says GO! Then ancillary complications are Congress’ fault. Congress says NO GO, then those evil Republicans would not bring justice to the dead kids in Syria. I call that a win-win!

First, I can't stomach "did you know he served in Viet Nam" TRAITOR Kerry, talking about going to War....and having heard him and ALL Democrats railing on Bush for Iraq.

Where's the "proof of WMD's used by Assad"?

Only a fool would think that Hezbollah, Hamas, Al Queda, Taliban, Muslim Brotherhood, etc. do NOT already have the latest and greatest nerve gas, nuclear weapons, etc., and all we are doing is appeasing some oil-country dictators (and the oil company interests associated with them), or, some 3rd world towel-heads who would strap bombs on their asses and hit a daycare center at the drop of a hat.

We aren't allowed to "Profile" Muslims, and they have "Religious Freedom" to infiltrate this country with embedded terrorist cells with impunity, and raise millions for the terrorists around the world, who are avowed "Kill the Infidels" fanatics. We need a second Crusades event, to purge the planet of the scum.

Thinking that drone striking is "not a war" is ignoring the terrorists that will be up to no good in the USA and at its interests around the world. They don't subscribe to "Rules of Engagement", they're not signatory to "The Geneva Conventions", and, worst of all, we have a Muslim CIC who works to make sure they are not wiped out completely, and, has neutered the Military (over-run with faggots and dykes and political appointees in command positions). We'd have a helluva time today to engage ANY enemy in a real war, and would lose 100's of thousands of personnel, world-wide, due to the decimation of the morale, fibre, and Honor of the past 6 years.....

Obama rolls the dice on Syria

What roll of the dice? Obama has Boehner, Canter, McCain and other arm twisters on his side. Now he has to find some other excuse for not going to war because the Russians are breathing down his spineless neck.

Attack the man’s policies.

Acting like a ten-year-old only means people will continue to ignore you.

And I would hate to be a sailor in our Navy, whom Obama neither cares for nor understands. (Except for the rainbow contingent of course.)

It’s time to rub the commie muzzie’s nose in it! Congress should tell him in no uncertain terms that we are NOT going to war to assuage his inflated ego!

“...seeking political cover for an unpopular move.”

And paying nothing for it!

Obama’s inability to negotiate is “the elephant in the room” in Syria.
He’s directly caused the deaths of thousands of Syrians- who would not have died if he had had the meager negotiating skills to work with Putin for a solution.
Instead he’s fighting for LGBT rights in Russia!

Now those who vote against authorization to cover his incompetence will be blamed by the media for every future atrocity in Syria. Shame we don’t have a free media in America.

How can this request to Congress be reconciled with Obama’s willingness to act unilaterally in Libya?

Easy: it's just another Obama lie. He said he acknowledges that "Congress wants its voice to be heard"; they'll vote, he'll say their voices have been heard, and he has been proud to be a part of that historical, robust debate, being one of our country's most hallowed traditions, but now he has to do what's good for the country.
