Bad News for Lamar: Tea Partiers Vow to Stand United
Nashville Scene ^ | August 31, 2013 | Jeff Woods

Posted on 09/01/2013 3:58:56 AM PDT by don-o

The tea party settled one question this afternoon at a meeting to audition candidates to challenge Sen. Lamar Alexander in next year’s GOP primary. Both Joe Carr and Kevin Kookogey promised they'll drop out of the picture if tea partiers are rallying behind the other guy.

Carr, a three-term state representative from Murfreesboro, took the pledge in his opening statement to the crowd of roughly 300 at the Sheraton Music City Hotel. It was the first of five meetings to vet potential challengers to Alexander and to conduct secret straw polls. At the end of September, tea partiers will add up the votes and decide which candidate to back. Carr said if it’s not him, he’s out.

We’re all here for one reason and one reason only, and that’s to beat Lamar Alexander for the United States Senate. Before I go any further, I’m going to tell you that this process is so important that we’ve got to unite around one candidate. However this process works out, I pledge to you that I will support that candidate because it’s that important. We as principled constitutional conservatives can no longer allow ourselves to be divided. We need one candidate who can run against Lamar who can win this election and carry the banner of constitutional conservatism to the United States Senate.

Kookogey, a former chairman of the Williamson County GOP, made a similar promise later in response to a question. Unlike Carr, who announced his candidacy this month, Kookogey hasn’t said whether he’ll run yet.

“The target is Lamar,” Kookogey said, adding that if he decides to run and “if Joe is polling ahead of me and he has more money, absolutely I would step aside and I would give him my money.”

This is bad news for Alexander, who hopes his opponents within the Republican Party will divide their votes in the primary. Splitting the conservative vote arguably is the only reason Bob Corker is a U.S. senator today. He won his primary in 2006 with fewer votes than the combined total of his two more conservative opponents. Bill Haslam did the same thing in his 2010 primary for governor.

Alex is my FRiend.

Men do what they do because that is what THEY do ... I don't know you, but if I did I'm sure I'd find a lot I didn't like nor agree with (I couldn't trust you while out having some beers to not get us into a fight .. f'rinstance)

I'm an older man as well and we look through different eyes than a younger.

I'm travelled also ... and we look through different eyes than those that went nowhere.

MY wife is Filipina and I hope to get my passport back before I die, because I wouldn't mind ONE BIT to enjoy a carefree life of leasure ... I worked for it, I earned it, and I want it.

Pennsylvania winters are hurtful these days.

The only reason you use the word coward for Alex is because of the context of what you think his reality should be ... but you look through your own eyes and will not attempt to see through his ... or mine. That lack of attempt idicates you either are too uninformed to conclude any positive result, or you're afraid you might like it yourself ... which is a form of cowardice

“...life DOES suck for me....”

Sorry to hear it. Not being sarcastic, either. The law in the wrong hands is a sh*tty thing indeed - which is why the other side tries so hard to get control of it.

But no matter what, you are still very much alive and in the fight (whatever that fight may turn out to be), and that is always a good thing. Even if your part is simply helping someone else to not lose heart, or faith - that’s a huge thing.

Be well. I have no quarrel with you, knarf, and I sincerely hope your situation gets better.

You claim to have courage ... how so? How have you demonstrated the slightest bit of courage by running away?

You’re a coward, Alex. Even worse, you’re actually proud of turning your back on your country and your fellow Americans. And if that weren’t bad enough, you’re actually so hypocritical, that you sit on your beach, far from danger, berating those who stand in harm’s way back home.

Instead of shooting your mouth off and offending these good people, you ought to be humbled to even be allowed to be in our company. You’re already wearing the pastel shades of an enemy.

My fear is that we are going to have 7 tea party conservatives all running against Christie and Christie will get the nomination by default. A lone liberal will always win over a half dozen conservatives.

It could very well happen.

Sorry you feel that way. I beg to differ...if you and I had a "beer summit", I'd bet we'd find a lot in common, and would have a fairly good time.

As to the Philippines being a tropical paradise, well, I might not agree with you there, but that's only because I can't think of any place in the world I'd rather live than here in the USA. We have tropical paradises, too, you know. Have you ever been to the Gulf Coast? Fishing galore, warm to hot climate, not too expensive, and still a part of our nation. I've never been to the Philippines, but I've been to the Italian Riviera...sure it was beautiful, but I'd never dream of settling there. But I digress.

A friend of mine is also married to a Filipina, and she's a great mother and wife. My buddy has the best of both worlds...a good marriage to a good woman, and living in the greatest nation God ever blessed.

As for my lack of empathy toward you and Alex, I again beg to differ. While I'm quite a bit younger than both of you, I know people who have left the cold winters of Idaho for the warm, sunny climate of Arizona. Same goes for when I lived on the East coast...the snowbirds were everywhere in Florida. Trust me...I know.

I bet a lot of guys from Pennsylvania in 1941 would rather have been on the beaches of Florida, but they went to war, or went to work in the foundries of Pittsburgh to help the war effort. The 78-year old man who mustered at Lexington Green (unfortunately, I can't remember his name...NFHale, can you help me out?) probably would have rather been tending his fields or shop, or enjoying an ale with his friends. Instead, he was shot and bayoneted on April 19th, 1775...only to recover and fight the rest of the war. He was older than Alex, and presumably you, too. Hell, look at my FRiend Marcella, who is 80...is he turning chicken a** and running away? No, he's staying here and doing what he can to help us restore our Republic. He has honor. He's not a coward. He ain't running.

Try looking at the situation through our eyes. Better yet, try looking at it through the eyes of those men who have fought and died over the years to ensure we have the freedoms they fought to give us. When the time comes, "expats" will try to explain to them why Mai Tais on the beach were more important than doing their duty as Americans. I'll be able to look them in the eye...I imagine a lot of expats will be looking down at their shoes, sandals, or whatever they wear in Heaven.

I am liking the strategy here. Lamar Alexander is one p.o.s. who has to go.
Next: Graham and Kirk.

OK, so technically you didn’t use the actual word “idiot”, but the common theme of your responses is that we “do not have the imagination or ability to run their own lives”.

This from a guy who thinks first, foremost and only of himself.

Many of us here in this country have larger spheres of concern.

Kookogey is now running and I hope both of these men are serious about the less popular one dropping out (looks like they are using a tea party straw poll) because I don’t see Lamar losing with both of them in.

Carr, having been elected to the state legislature, is the stronger candidate.

Kookogey is now running

Got source for that? Here's a posting from facebook

Beat Lamar

Ralph Bristol just posted this on his Facebook account:

Eric Stamper put out the word today to Tea Party groups across the state that Kevin Kookogey has suspended his "unannounced campaign" for U.S. Senate. Here's part of what he wrote: "As of this morning, Kevin Kookogey has officially suspended his plans to run for U.S. Senate. He has relayed to me that he believes it is vital that there be a united fight to defeat Lamar Alexander and that if he continued to participate through the Coalition and Beat Lamar processes, especially in an unofficial-candidate capacity, that it would cause confusion and there wouldn't be unity. I know there are other considerations as well, but bottom line is that unless something dramatic changes in the campaign to defeat Alexander, Kevin Kookogey won't be a candidate."

Kookogey has no chance, and any additional candidates help, not hurt, Lamar!

It is quite a sight to see the barking dogs calling me a coward and how I should be their FIGHTING, but I have not read one single post that says how one can fight the Obamination. Do they plan to arm themselves and march on Washington? Of course not, because they are just simple barking dogs. They are the real cowards, as they do not have the guts to make their own lives. It takes far more courage to explore the world and make ones own life then it does to spew hate for those that do.
As for myself, I am fighting, and doing a much better job of it by informing those in other countries just what a mess the US is in. It is surprising to see how little those in other countries know about our plight.

Another civil war is, of course, out of the question. America is getting what they voted for, but it is not what I voted for, and I have no intention of joining the Marxist to create a new Communist state.
I do understand those on here that are sick at what has happened to America, but all the barking in the world will not help the country, and barking at those of us that lead free lives will do nothing but make noise and make them look petty. They want us to feel their pain, but that will do nothing to save America.
It would be far better for them to find their own life instead of spewing hate for those that have.
I will be waiting to see Mr. Scouts out, Cavalry ho jump on his pony and invade Washington. I think it will be a long wait as he is too busy barking. Keep in touch and let me know when you are coming. Other guys are arriving almost every week, and I am trying to find houses for them. My wife, child, and I may soon go back to Europe for a visit, but do not know when.

Whatever makes you feel better about your cowardice, Chicken Man.

"I will be waiting to see Mr. Scouts out, Cavalry ho jump on his pony and invade Washington."

You know it's common FReep courtesy to ping someone you're talking about in your posts, don't you? So not only are you a coward, but you're an inconsiderate coward to boot. Not that I expected any better from you.

This creep Alex is a real piece of work, isn't he?

He'd better be glad that JimRob doesn't let me hold the zot gun. He'd be an expat of FreeperLand before midnight.

“...The 78-year old man who mustered at Lexington Green (unfortunately, I can’t remember his name...NFHale, can you help me out?) ...”

Samuel Whittemore. That Patriot was shot and bayonetted, and went to live another 18 years after the battle.

And for the record, 42-year old Captain John Parker, militia captain at Lexington, veteran of the French and Indian war, was dying of tuberculosis even as he stood there waiting for the government troops.
