Presents Something Blue
Crystal Blue Persuasion
~ Tommy James & The Shondells ~
I close tonight with "Crystal Blue Persuasion", a title that came to Tommy James while he was reading The Bible. I've discussed it here in depth at the Canteen before, so I'll be brief about it. According to James in a 1985 interview in Hitch magazine: "I took the title from the Book of Revelations[sic] in the Bible, reading about the New Jerusalem. The words jumped out at me, and they're not together; they're spread out over three or four verses. But it seemed to go together, it's my favorite of all my songs and one of our most requested."
According to James's manager, Tommy was actually inspired by his reading of the Book of Ezekiel where it speaks of the Blue Shekinah Light which represented the presence of the Almighty God and the Books of Isaiah and Revelation where it speaks of a bright future of a brotherhood of mankind living in peace and harmony.
Before that peace and harmony begins, The Bible tells us that we are in for some hard times. This week during my devotions I've been focused on the prophecies found in the 17th chapter of Isaiah which begins: "The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from [being] a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap."
In the last days, Leading up to the war of Magog, the Bible tells us of a horrible series of events that will take place in the lands of Israel and Syria. One of these events is the disappearance of Damascus, the oldest continuously inhabited city on the planet. Damascus has witnessed at least 5,000 years of uninterrupted human history, and some historians believe the city actually dates back to the seventh millennium BC. That it is taken away and it shall be a ruinous heap is future prophecy FRiends. Considering current events, it gives one pause. Now I don't think for a moment that our President will destroy Damascus with a few ACLMs, ACMs and Tomahawks - that's not what Isaiah says. My studies incline me to think that Israel will nuke the place in retaliation for something. According to Isaiah, the Israeli cities of Aroer, (which are located on the northern bank of the Arnon River just east of the Dead Sea), will be deserted. However, the passage doesnt say they will be destroyed in the same manner as Damascus, just that they will be deserted. It may be that people simply flee these cities out of fear.
In addition, many of the fortified cities in northern Israel (Haifa, Irbid, Amman; Tel Aviv?) will be destroyed according to scripture. Could a US attack on Syria lead Iran to attack these northern Israeli cities with WMDs as they are currently threatening if the US attacks Syria, prompting Israel to retaliate against Damascus?
Anyone who has been reading Joel Rosenberg's series of 7 works of fiction for the last 14 years are probably nodding their heads. In his first book (written before 9/11, but released after), The Last Jihad, he wrote about hijacked planes used as weapons by radical Muslims. In The Last Days (before the Iraq War) he wrote about the US attacking Saddam prior to the deed. In The Tehran Initiative he killed off Arafat before the fact and eventually introduced The Twelth Imam - the Islamic Mahdi. In book after book, Joel has come very close to calling what was about to happen. He's not a prophet, nor does he claim to be, just a student of prophecy. A Christian Jew who has worked for Steve Forbes, Rush Limbaugh, Natan Sharansky and Benjamin Natanyahu, I've found Joel's books some of the most compelling fiction I've ever read. Earlier this year, I finished his latest, Damascus Countdown (2013). I'm rereading it now and paying particular attention to parts dealing with the 17th chapter of Isaiah. It's food for thought in these troubled times and another step on the path to the Crystal Blue Shekinah . . .

Thanks Kathy...all is well, just not enough hours in the day/night.
My husband built that greenhouse (4 could fit in there easily to work) and all the shelves are covered.
Then he made that 1 foot x 5 foot indoor planter box for herbs — all filled up.
Then of course, there are all the gardens.
I said to my husband tonight, “At least when it snows, there are no weeds to pull and no watering.”
I hope you are doing fine Kathy.
Have a relaxing weekend.
