Michael Eric Dyson, a King admirer and hard leftist himself, makes this point unmistakably clear in his, I May Not Get There With You: The True Martin Luther King, Jr.
Blasting away at the the conservative misappropriation of King, Dyson shows, not that King would have supported much of the lefts agenda, but that he in fact did do so. For starters, King resoundingly endorsed what is today called affirmative action. King insisted that the nation must not only radically readjust its attitude toward the Negro in the compelling present, but must incorporate in its planning some compensatory compensation from the handicaps he inherited from the past.
Moreover, King envisioned a redistributive scheme that he characterized as massive. I am proposing, King remarked, that, just as we granted a GI Bill of Rights to war veterans, America launch a broad-based and gigantic Bill of Rights for the Disadvantaged, our veterans of the long siege of denial.
Interestingly, King eventually came to think that his earlier belief that American institutions could be reformed was a mistake. Rather, because America was born in genocide, racial hatred, and racial supremacy, nothing less than a reconstruction of the entire society, a revolution of values was demanded. After all, a nation that put as many Japanese in a concentration camp as America did during World War II will think nothing of putting black people in a concentration camp as well.
This revolution of values that he desired King called democratic socialism.

There is one final detail concerning this icon that enriches the irony of Reagan conservatives doing their best to transform King into a one of their own: King despised Ronald Wilson Reagan.

Reagan, in my estimation, was the man who (temporarily) saved us from Jimmy Carter socialism. He proudly wore his Christianity. He believed in the greatness of America, and America loved him for it. People say Reagan coudn’t be elected today. I believe he could!
(Odious post removed, Thanks!
Thanks for the info.
I think he would win in another landslide, were he still with us.
You’re right as rain.
LOL
The truth about MLK is there, but Ronald Reagan wouldn’t and the American people still won’t read it.
One less Nazi here. Good riddance.
As for me, I smoke a cigar when I feel like it, the last was 4-5 years ago. I drink a shot of Bushmill’s at night before I go to bed, sometimes a beer at a family gathering.
The thing about some vices is that they are only vices when indulged to excess.
Others are vices under any circumstances. Adultery for example.
Others may be situational. One of the Big 10 states that you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. I have parsed this one carefully, and I cannot see where it says you shall not tell your wife that her fanny does not look fat.
But I could well be wrong
I think many Republicans feel they must pay homage to MLK Jr. as part of their reach out effort to blacks.
MLK Jr’s dark side has been so successfully covered up over the years that very few people are actually aware.
You are right that the information is there. But you have to dig for it. It’s not as if you could go into your local library, or watch an in depth documenatary on TV to get this information.
Some Republicans have twisted themselves into pretzels in their absurd and patently dishonest attempts to turn Martin Luther King into a conservative icon. Every time far-left race baiters push some outrageous policy, there's a certain group of "conservatives" who have to justify their opposition by saying "that's not what the Great Reverend Doctor King would have wanted."
This line requires either incredible ignorance or equally incredible dishonesty, because given King's known association with Communist agitators, it's clear that a far-left agenda is precisely what he wanted. If he were alive today, he'd probably criticize Obama for not being radical enough.
” This line requires either incredible ignorance or equally incredible dishonesty, because given King’s known association with Communist agitators, it’s clear that a far-left agenda is precisely what he wanted”
There are actual pictures of MLK attending CPUSA meetings, for those who care to look them up. Also hated Reagan.
“The foundation of modern society is the denial of reality.”

Allow me to nominate that sentence as an entry in the contest to determine the most truth ever expressed in ten words or in other words, AMEN BROTHER, AMEN!!!
In my area there used to be a saying often heard, “The truth is welcome” or as sometimes expressed, “The truth is welcome in Heaven”. It seems that the truth is most certainly NOT WELCOME in the United Staes of America any longer.
I want to be charitable and believe that some conservatives simply haven’t done their homework on King. I’m sure there are a few who are afraid of being labeled racists unless they rhapsodize over him, but the majority, I imagine, don’t know who he really was.
I only found out today that King despised Reagan. Am I surprised? Oh,no....it’s right in line with what we know of him.
Personally I don’t think Lincoln belongs in the same group with Washington and Reagan and MLK certainly does not.

To be fair, I learned the truth about MLK from my dad’s research some 35 years ago. I read more about King in later years.
I only found out today that King despised Reagan.
Same here. No shock though : )
You have a point.
” Personally I dont think Lincoln belongs in the same group with Washington and Reagan”
Lincoln was out for Lincoln.
It’s very politically correct to refrain from criticism of him.
Isn’t it though!
Fun fact: unless there has been a drastic change in recent years, MLK’s FBI files are still sealed.
Gotta wonder why.
