News that the United States is considering a military strike on Syria in response to the Bashar al-Assad regime's suspected use of chemical weapons suggests we could soon see an American bombing campaign on the war-torn country.
The atrocities that took place in Syria recently, such as those that have been taking place there for almost two years, are deplorable and inhuman.
Before bombing Syria over the regime's latest crimes, however, we should stand back and ask, "And then what?"....

Yes. He’s right. Obama wants to support the “rebels” (aka, Al Qaeda) and this will do us no good.
We’ve got to think about what is important for the US. We can help mop up afterwards (with humanitarian relief), but we sure don’t need to get involved in this.
Oops, wrong thread.
The only role the US military should play in this conflict is making sure that it doesn’t spread to neighboring countries and escalate. As long as it’s largely contained within Syria, let the warring factions sort it out among themselves.
Kind of ironic that after years of ripping people like Pat Buchanan for rejecting “nation building” and for advocating non-intervention in the sectarian and tribal wars of the Third World, Newt Gingrich has come around to the same conclusions. Hopefully the rest of the GOP will follow, and leave the neoconservatives behind to join the Democratic party where they rightly belong.
LOL!!!
Stay out
.
Gee,
Ya think?
I wonder how many billions have been already earmarked for the next round of “nation building,” this time in Syria?
Newt is RIGHT!!!! I wanted him to become President, NOT Romney or (re-electing) obama, in 2012.
The Syrian “rebels” specialize in killing Christians!!!! If they should win, expect a real bloodbath of Orthodox Christians, especially including Antiochian Orthodox Christians like the ones in the U.S.
Of course, obama—and the other “human rightsers” like Kerry, McCain, Hillary, and Samantha World Power—have CONSISTENTLY backed Christian-kllling muslim supremacists—in the Serbian homeland, in Egypt, and elsewhere.
We NEVER should have re-elected obama, who always appoints “human rightsers” to positions of power, and supports their failed and bloody strategies and policies. PHOOEY!!!!
Newt is smarter than all the odumbo administration put together. He speaks his mind, straight from the shoulder. I totally agree with him on Syria, we have no business there. Odumbo wants to replace “management” in Syria with his muslim brothers and ultimately get the entire middle east under their control. Wish he would join them, OVER THERE.
For one thing, they're very selective about whose "human rights" they care about. For instance, they were all tears when Muslim Albanians were being "ethnically cleansed" from Serbia while ignoring the ethnic cleansing of Serbs by Albanians in Kosovo. They were also remarkably silent when white farmers were being ethnically cleansed from Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) by Robert Mugabe's band of thugs.
Second, wars are never fought over humanitarian grounds, but over who benefits from the spoils. So when somebody starts peddling the "human rights" line, my question is always what their real agenda is.

Thanks ek_hornbeck.
We're broke. We can't afford to work for Al Qaeda ( which is what would be happening) and we can't afford to 'mop up' either. If folks in the ME want to be fools it's NOT our problem. If the United States stops running in with food and aid maybe these men will stay home and feed their families rather than constantly running off to play war.
Yes, between Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait there should be plenty of money for all the humanitarian relief one could ask for. And if they aren’t willing to provide it to their suffering Arab brothers...well, there’s your answer on which side is worthy of support - neither.
If we cause Assad to lose, then we become responsible for the ensuing bloodbath. We will own what happens. It will be all our fault.
If we get involved here, it will not end. We will become mired in a fight between our two enemies, with no out for the US.
As I said, I'm happy to see him (and any Republican) move away from the neoconservative position and closer to that of Reaganite foreign policy realists like the late Lawrence Eagleburger.
Mccain and Graham are batshit crazy
This is the beginning of the end for them and their kind
The bloodbath has already begun. The Mombasa MF's open support of 'Arab Spring Rebels' has brought the torture and massacre of Christians to Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, and Syria, just as he brought the massacre of Christians to Kenya in 2006 when he supported Odinga with money and stump speeches in open violation of our laws against elected officials meddling in foreign politics.
Stay out, you SOB!
