Of course I never mention the race of my friendships and they are shocked when I tell them so and so (whom they know to be black) used to be tight with me and so and so and I were buds throughout college or whatever and then it becomes clear in other descriptions of their name they are black and my in laws look dumb founded. You can see them thinking 'wow she's a conservative and a republican and has more black friends then us. as we've actually never really had black friends until out daughter brought this girl home. I'm so confused."

I HATE threads like this. I am here sick as a dog and really didn’t intend to post at all tonight until I read this thread. Does anyone who posted here stop and think or realize how many black Freepers there are on this board? OR Jews like me? You can’t see their skin color but they are there and a thread like this is bait for libs to point their racebaiting filthy fingers and say, “Aha! Free Republic... Look at this.”
So our FRiends and fellow Freepers read a thread like this and don’t respond because they have been stereotyped in almost every way possible and think what the hell is the use.

Tell me about it. I have adopted from birth black children who when they were young were invited to every leftist’s child birthday party in the state. sigh.
Liberals are so steeped in the collectivist mindset that they are incapable of simply seeing blacks as regular people like themselves, but they also know they're not supposed to think of them as inferior, so they end up regarding them as a sort of exotic anthropological curiosity. They remark on their daughter's friend's race because that is the only thing they are *allowed* to think about her. If they happen to learn something else about her (e.g., she's taking cello lessons), they probably just mentally incorporate that into their anthropological data ("black people play the cello").
