Sean Sasser from MTVs The Real World: San Francisco has died at the age of 44, his longtime partner said. Sasser, who had been HIV positive for 25 years, died Wednesday from mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer.
The reality star died in the Washington home he shared with Michael Kaplan. While he was not one of the original cast members on The Real World, he became a household name as his relationship with Pedro Zamora was explored during the shows third season in 1994. The couples exchange of vows during a commitment ceremony, the first ever broadcast on U.S. television, became a landmark moment in TV history.
The couple began dating during the taping of the series. Their relationship and Zamoras battle with AIDS while living in The Real World house with seven strangers became must-see-TV for teens and young adults, many of whom had never been exposed to a gay couple, much less someone living with HIV.
Zamora, who had been diagnosed with AIDS at age 17, was a well-known AIDS activist at the time he was cast on the show at age 21. Sasser, who was also working as an activist and educator, also revealed on the show that he was HIV positive.
During the taping of the series, Zamoras health took a turn.
This wasnt a romantic death. It wasnt a heroic death. It was horrible, and Sean couldnt do anything except watch it happen, fellow co-star Judd Winick told the online magazine POZ in 1997. Winick chronicled his friendship with Zamora and Sasser in the graphic novel Pedro and Me: Friendship, Loss and What I Learned.
Zamora died on Nov. 11, 1994, with Sasser at his side just hours after the airing of the final episode of the season, which featured the two men exchanging their vows, according to MTV.
Sasser continued his work as an AIDS activist and educator.
Sasser recently moved from Portland, Oregon, to Washington when Kaplan took a job with AIDS United, a non-profit group. The couple had dated off and on for years since the 1990s, but moved in together about six years ago, Kaplan said.
His illness evolved quickly, with the July diagnosis of stage 4 mesothelioma following a June blood test showing an abnormality, Kaplan said.
Thank You, Chris Christie
Nature’s self cleaning mode on display.
Real world SF has a problem with asbestos dont ya know
One less viewer for ABC’s upcoming gay rights miniseries.....
Mother Nature’s Rules...
Rule #1: No Poofters!
My guess is this has little to do with asbestos...
AIDS at 17?????
Sean Sasser? Honestly, never heard of him.
Who? The only Sasser known is the Daffyset Jim Sasser.
I have said for years — to friends and more than a few radio audiences — that the homosexual community wants the legal right to perform in public acts for which a heterosexual couple would — and should — be arrested for indecency. If you’ve ever seen the images of how the queers in Frisco and New Orleans behave during their periodic “celebrations” of their “deathstyle,” it has already happened there. The next two years will give the Nancy Pelosi crowd a chance to federalize their deathstyle.
I really don’t care HOW they got to where they are — recruited or via genetic predisposition — in their genitalia worship (and that’s what it is), I just don’t want them demonstrating their explicit sexual behavior in front of our kids and grandkids. ADULT homosexuals have the same right as the rest of us to do nearly whatever they wish IN THE BEDROOM, where it belongs.
Why do I call it a “deathstyle?” For over 20 years, my wife was a member of a well-known ladies chorus. One of their first directors was a gifted musician who also happened to be openly homosexual. He died a slow, agonizing death — at age 43 — of AIDS. How gay could THAT be? Most homosexuals — many of whom have as many as several hundred unprotected encounters a year — ARE dead at an early age of HIV infections which explains why there are so few OLD homosexuals. And even that protection aint. With even the condom manufacturers admitting to a 20% failure rate, its akin to playing Russian roulette with your willie.
Bill Clinton’s CDC released figures a few years ago reflecting that fully 85% of all AIDS/HIV cases are
1. Active, non-monogamous homosexuals, (the largest subset)
2. Heterosexuals and bisexuals who have had sex with group 1 and
3. IV drug abusers who share needles.
(Kinda gives new meaning to Romans 6:23, doesn’t it?)
The remaining 15% are those who have contracted AIDS via other, non-sexual/non-drug means SUCH AS TRANSFUSIONS OF TAINTED BLOOD (which one homosexual “leader” on the West Coast URGED his fellow homosexuals to CONTINUE to attempt to contaminate in order to involve the straight community in the push to increase federal funding for AIDS research).
What a guy — er — GAY!
HOWEVER, what did catch my eye was this little piece; " ... died Wednesday from mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer." I could have sworn from watching COMMERCIALS on some cable channels, that mesothelioma was a raging disease, or at least so according to "Doug", right? Lawyers still seem to chase ambulances, especially on TV!
Sean’s dead? Shean’s dead? Oh, my goodness.
(Who in the hell was he?)
Oh. Another homosexual bit the dust? Now that is a surprise.
cancer = AIDS
That’s what they all say. They can’t summon the courage to believe the truth
44 is old for a homosexual.
Pray for America to Wake Up
I do remember the AIDS ridden homo Pedro on that show, but I stopped watching after they kicked out the only interesting guy, Puck, who used to make fun of the gay guy pretty mercilessly.
Not in my household.
I never heard of him before today.
Article is entirely too long. A condensed article saving a large part of a forest and a few hours of a coal generating electric plant.
Sick Queer up and dies .... queer community mourns.
