With a .45 caliber legally strapped to his side, Jordan McManus decided to photograph the federal courthouse in Phoenix last night, realizing he would probably draw attention from police, especially after reading about Raymond Michaels experience last May.
But he was still a little surprised when a police helicopter hovered over him with a spotlight as two patrol cars pulled up next to him and another two cops approached him on foot.
They immediately tried to disarm him, but he refused to let them do it as it is legal to open carry in Arizona.
Then they tried to pat him down, which didnt make sense considering he was already showing a firearm. But he wouldnt let them do that either.
Youre carrying a firearm and taking a picture of a federal building, the cop exclaimed, trying to justify the pat down.
Then they demanded to know who he was, but didnt get anywhere with that either.
Here is a portion of the exchange:
Am I being detained right now? McManus asks.
Absolutely you are, yes, the cop responds.
You have reasonable suspicion that I committed a crime, right?
Well, Im concerned
Youre concerned. Are you detaining me?
I am, he says weakly.
Under the suspicion that I committed what crime?
I dont know yet. Youre not giving us any information.
And there you have the reason why police are always demanding to see peoples identification even though the people are not breaking the law. It gives them a hope that if they run your name through their system, they will find a bench warrant and have an excuse to arrest you.

Yee-ahhh I gotta give this a #1. It’s pretty awesome. And adaptable for so many situations!
They are profiling, just not the right people. Idiot pigs!
“As an unbiased watcher of this thread, it is safe to say that YOU are about a stones throw away from being a liberal.”
First if you have made that assumption, you are not unbiased, you are undoubtedly a libertarian or close to it. Otherwise you wouldn’t be anti cop. Second, you obviously haven’t a clue what a liberal is, so you are again probably a libertarian. Libertarians are half liberals, I am a conservative. I don’t loathe gov’t; I believe in limited gov’t. Are you an Anarchist? Then you should throw in with Occupy Wallstreet. I’m a Ronal Reagan conservative. What the heck are you? Another cop hater?
Ronal = Ronald above. Stuck key.
“The enemy is not ragheads, it is an ideology.”
They’re ragheads to me. Not PC enough for you? Are you one of them? Maybe that’s why you keep on talking about terrorism and fear. Hmmmm......
lol. thanks
I’m as un-PC as possible. Not from malice but by nature, I don’t sugar coat.
The ideology is rampant among “ragheads” but is not confined to them. Certainly we must be strong militarily, but we must also be strong ideologically. We must be able to articulate with certainty our ideology: liberty (not libertine-ism), tolerance, and freedom to contract/free market (not monopoly or government subsidy). The “West” must cease its slide toward “communitarianism” and affirm rugged individualism. We must show that Islam is not a religion but a cult which believes you must join or die, as such it is not protected by the 1st Amendment.
The ideology must be defeated. It is not “islamo-fascist” or “the bad moslems” - it’s the entire ideology. There is no major religion with the tenet that all must join or be killed - except Islam. It does not qualify as a religion. And I don’t want any guff about the Crusades, “join or die” is not a tenet of Christianity.
Now do you really think that there is a single politician or Western leader who would dare say such?
As I said, failure to identify the enemy is to be vanquished. The enemy is the ideology. Do you think any country suffering under Islam will convert to a republican form of government, have individual liberty, and free markets without the abolition of the ideology they suffer under? This is why all our military & economic efforts have not been entirely successful.
Unless there is substantial change very soon, the West is doomed. Not only do we refuse to recognize the enemy, our own “leaders” are dragging us in non-Western directions toward statism, control, and oligarchy.
That clear things up for ya?
To defeat the ideology will take more than bombs and bucks.
It takes knowing what WE are about. It takes showing how their ideology is mistaken. We must be strong but we must lead.
A Reagan or a Thatcher are grounded and up to the task.
There are none like that now.
“A Reagan or a Thatcher are grounded and up to the task.
There are none like that now.”
Finally something we can agree upon. And on that note, I bid you good night. I’m in the middle of a great book and I want to read a few chapters before turning out the lights. Therefore, sweet dreams and I bid you adieu.
Sleep well... or enjoy the book so thoroughly that the sun rises without your notice.
“or enjoy the book so thoroughly that the sun rises without your notice”
That’s almost poetic and a nice thought. Thank you.
He wanted to know what I was doing!!!!
I thought it was obvious!
Maybe you should consider changing your tagline.
How many of our rights do we need to be willing to compromise on? How subservient to a tyrannical government can we be and remain a Free People? How much abuse by "authorities" must we meekly take in order that they not be upset with us? Don't forget the Founders thought it much better that the government be afraid of the People than the other way around. If millions of us would start being the same sort of "pukeheads", we might actuall regain some of the Freedoms we have been ceding for no reason other than that "they" think we need to cede them.
“Peace Officer” - Are you the person who holds the STOP sign at the School crossing?
I thought the motto was “To SERVER and Protect”.
The Police are never there when needed - only after the fact. In the few instances where they are “there” they are on a coffee break, or off duty - a happenstance
What are police for? In God’s scheme of things? They guard our right to receive God’s blessings unmolested.
The sooner you respect that, the sooner you will get a godly mellowness about the matter.
Security is something that, yes, is up to all people. The governments are there to bring some kind of regularity, predictability, and pooled resources to the matter of security. If there were no governments we’d soon be constructing new ones.
Anyhow, while not ceding all responsibility for security to governments, do honor their role, and honor their custodians where appropriate. It’s our own fault if we get so jadedly cynical about governments that we see them as things to be taunted.
His race was not mentioned. He may have been police baiting to get a rise.
I think that was his motive.
By the way one of the most constructive things that could be done is to revive the posse. Have joint sheriff-citizen drills. We have the right to use a gun if we must — let’s do it wisely.
Wake up and smell the reality.
